There may be different sources, but the source I have says Carrefour, with 14,100 stores, is #1, followed by Lidl (12,650 stores), Aldi (12,000), Walmart (10,750) and TESCO (4,572).

Interestingly, French Carrefour is in 40 countries, but none in the United States, which explains why Americans voted so much for Walmart.

By "largest" do you mean has the most stores? I feel that's Wal Mart, but the others might be more widespread. I don't recall seeing a Wal Mart outside of the US and Canada

A I've never even heard of. Surely if it was big, I would've. The next two ring a bell, but I don't recall actually seeing one. I'm gonna eliminate those

I know Lidl is big in Europe, but I don't know how big and if they have them elsewhere.

Target I feel isn't as popular anymore and I don't know if they even have them outside of the US.

Tesco, I've heard of. I don't know where they're from, but I know it's a big name.

Wal Marts, I know the US is littered with them and there's some in Canada. But I know the world doesn't revolve around the US. But I also feel Wal Mart would be too obvious, so I'm gonna toss it out. I don't think it's target either. I think it's either Tesco or Lidl. Damnit, I wish I knew what country Tesco is from.

I don't know though, now I feel it SHOULD be an American company, because of American imperialism. We usually dominate the market.

Oh my God! This is hard, I have no clue. I know Americans are very American-centric, but everyone knows IKEA though, so even if it was a non-American company that was the biggest, I feel I'd know about it. DAMNIT! If only I knew where Tesco was from

I'm surprised it's carrefour since it's my last favorable grocery market. They have good office stuff and chemicals assortments here but food variety and quality is media core.

It IS. Some girl posted the answer😂 That was one of the ones I was certain it WASN'T. I think I've heard of it, but I've never actually seen one, so I don't know how it can be the biggest, unless like you said, they're all in Russia and China, even though it's a French company

I think he means by number of stores. But I'm only speculating. I could be wrong. He really should've specified that. But I feel if it was income he would've said "richest" or "highest grossing"

I mostly pay attention to supermarkets in the North America, not much to others.

I cannot give a solid answer as to who is the world's largest supermarket company.

I will, however, guess who is the largest in the North America.

If we factor in the grocery stores incorporated inside Wal-Mart centers, I'd guess Wal-Mart is North America's largest supermarket company.

Kroger would be my 2nd choice.

Walmart is still the winner. They have the most stores and generate the most income. They also lead the world in underpaying their associates to the point where they're eligible for government assistance, not only in the USA, but other countries too.

About 12 years ago, investors. com published an article trying to explain how the idea that taxpayers subsidize Walmart's low wages was a myth. Almost 14 years later, Walmart posted a NET PROFIT worldwide of $19.3 billion dollars in 2024, for a net profit percentage of a measly 25%!! The article was bullshit.

For those who are bad at math, that means for every dollar you spent at Wally-world, 25 cents end up in the pockets of the corporation as pure profit after ALL expenses. You might think there's some money in there to pay employees a decent wage. By not doing so though, those who need assistance do indeed tap into Federal and State programs supported by all taxes.

The only supermarket I heard was Walmart. So, I guess it's Walmart. In my country, there is Walmart but I haven't visited that one yet. There isn't many Walmart here. Reliance Retail, Smart Bazaar, D- Mart, Spencer's, More, etc.. These companies have number of stores all over my country.

I know one Walmart that sells not only their usual but produce too.. it was the biggest Walmart I’ve ever been to.. Safeway, Harris teeter and giant I feel have like the same selection.. buc-ees in Charleston, SC I’ve just been introduced to.. it’s a hot spot.. super packed on a cold rainy like a couple weeks ago but not the biggest selection but HUGE selection of beef jerky and the best pulled pork barbecue sand which they make in house I almost cried

Probably Walmart, but they are not in every country. Aldi seems to be just about everywhere.

Publix is a very small company compared to these other national brands, and it's a family company. Kroger alone has twice as many locations.
