Oh yes Poppy, ratatouille is a genuine meal, be it enriched with sausages or beef carbonnade. Now the question is whether we have the same definition of what a "ratatouille" is supposed to be.
To me it is a mix of vegetables and patatoes, with or without sausages or carbonnade, or eggs, or little pieces of lightly baked lamb meat (delicious !). What I mean is that all ingredients are ultimately mixed in the same pot. I guess the definition depends on the tastes and habits of particular regions.
I like Ratatouille too @purplepoppy -- it is really more of a side dish but if you were presenting it (cooked by you) to me for supper it'd be perfect ! The side dish can come later !!
Mainly a meal. But I put it in the same category as soups that often can be used as a side dish as well.
It's side dish for normal people since it doesn't contain meat, for vegans it's main dish
Ratatouille is truly a versatile dish. The medley of summer vegetables, slowly cooked in olive oil with herbs, can be either a side dish or a standalone meal, depending on how you serve it. I remember enjoying Ratatouille in a quaint bistro in Provence, served with crusty bread as the centerpiece of the meal. Adding sausages or serving with grains can certainly enhance it as a filling main dish. 🍷🥖🌿

I make it as a side. For it to be a main, you would need to integrate a source of protein... there are thousands of options.
Side dish, but I don't mind having it as a main course.
I've made it as a side with beef bourguignon before but thinking back to the eponymous movie it's treated as a main course
Main meal, usually with rice. It's quick, easy, and delicious.
It is a side dish for me. I just donβt see myself eating a whole plate of it as an entree.
The only Ratatouille I know is a Disney movie.
I guess I'll have to enhance my culinary experiences. 😎
I think it's up to you. It can be easily eaten as a main meal especially if you're vegetarian or as a side dish.
Like you said I would think of it as a side dish unless you add some type of meat in with it.
Itβs a meal at home an when you eat it st a restaurant itβs a meal
@purplepoppy As long as it's made by a mouse.

Neither. It's a Disney/Pixar movie from 2007.
