Is Ratatouille a meal or a side dish?

I like Ratatouille and often make it but I've always viewed it as a side dish rather than a stand alone meal. The only time I'd consider it a meal would be if I threw some sausages in with it.

So do you like Ratatouille 🍅🍆👌🤪 and is it a meal or a side dish?

Oh yes Poppy, ratatouille is a genuine meal, be it enriched with sausages or beef carbonnade. Now the question is whether we have the same definition of what a "ratatouille" is supposed to be.

To me it is a mix of vegetables and patatoes, with or without sausages or carbonnade, or eggs, or little pieces of lightly baked lamb meat (delicious !). What I mean is that all ingredients are ultimately mixed in the same pot. I guess the definition depends on the tastes and habits of particular regions.

I like Ratatouille too @purplepoppy -- it is really more of a side dish but if you were presenting it (cooked by you) to me for supper it'd be perfect ! The side dish can come later !!

Mainly a meal. But I put it in the same category as soups that often can be used as a side dish as well.

It's side dish for normal people since it doesn't contain meat, for vegans it's main dish

I think it's up to you. It can be easily eaten as a main meal especially if you're vegetarian or as a side dish.
