Have you used a home bread maker, and how did your loaves turn out?

Like one of those all in one mix rise and bake ones. I have and usually the top caves and the crust crusts to crusty and I end up with an over dense crusty loaf that still blows away anything I have ever bought from a store and feels so much better in my body after eating it.

Yes I have one that I used to use. The loaves came out great. I have not used it in several years, mainly because I moved and I never got it out of the box! I need to get back into it. It was fun to try the different recipes with different flours, etc.

My friend has one.. comes out beautifully.. and then bread at my work is made in house.. super fresh and you can add your own ingredients, make it healthy and hearty

No, we don't. I get my fresh bread just around the corner. You can smell it before you open the door.

My early loaves were dense and a bit pale, but once I tweaked hydration and yeast, the machine became a real workhorse. Daily sandwich loaves came out soft, consistent, and perfect for toasting.

For more “artisan” style bread, I prefer using the dough cycle only, then shaping and baking in the oven for better crust and flavor.

I did when I was in the USA. Now that I'm bouncing around Europe, you don't need one. Bread is cheap, the flour isn't poison, there's no preservatives. I get fabulous, fresh bread everyday for one Euro, or 4 loaves for 3 Euro. You can't beat that, and you can find it everywhere, no matter which country you visit. There are bakeries everywhere, it's like a religion!

No, but I can pitch rice cookers as an alternative claim for the same limited bench space. So much better than I can cook in a pot, every time.
