Will women's obsession for diamonds ever end? Do they even care how many men and kids suffer because of their expensive needs?

How many innocent people have died in this world like in Africa because of women's love for diamonds? If you want a clear example of what I'm talking about, watch the movie Blood Diamond. Great movie and highly recommended to everyone out there who like good movies.

And who honestly believes that all the diamonds now which are labeled as conflict free diamonds aren't actually blood diamonds? In many places like Sierra Leone and Ivory Coast, exporting of blood diamonds still exist. I have actual African friends from Africa who say it very much exists in large numbers.

If only women demanding diamond rings and what not weren't such a big deal all over the world, there would be millions of innocent men and kids who wouldn't have died and suffered all these decades.

I'm not entirely hating on diamonds because many diamonds are still conflict free diamonds but why such craze and fascination over it? Why do diamonds have to represent a symbol of marriage and love? Because literally almost all women crave for diamonds and ignore the injustices that's happening at the expense of their obsession over it. I mean okay, go ahead and like diamonds but not at such extreme expectations that every one of your men should buy you an expensive diamond to show their love for you.

Personally, I would never accept any expensive diamond related gifts from my girlfriend or wife, family, friends, or anyone because I don't wanna give any of my money to that industry. Because the more money is given to the diamond industry, the more demand for blood diamonds will exist.

Diamonds are nice but cubic zirconia is just as pretty and a lot cheaper. I told my boyfriend he would be an idiot to waste so much money on a stupid rock. Three months salary (what an engagement ring is supposed to cost) could go into a savings account or towards a down payment for a house.

The scarcity of diamonds is artificial. The big companies like DeBeers have a monopoly on diamonds, so they lock away most of them and only release a small amount into the market at any time. Gullible people then pay through the nose thinking that it's something special and rare.

i dont wear jewelry unless it has sentimental meaning so i don't know. plus the rock you wear on your finger has zero significant in the relationship and if my future husband got me an expensive ring with a real diamond i would make him it take right back. Kris humpries bought kim k a 2 million dollar ring which was a real rock and they were together for 72 days while my dad got my mom a simple gold colored band because you dont make a lot of money as a bull rider and they have been together since they were 19 and 21 and they are (almost) 50 and 52

It's fucked up but you can't blame women, who is running the company pushing them? Who buys them? Who run the mines? Who make the cash from them? Don't blame women for a shitty human thing. This is much more than women liking diamonds, which they only like because men buy other women diamonds.

Blood diamond is a movie. Oil causes much more conflict and war, but we buy petroleum based products daily. The thing about boycotting diamonds, is that you actually end up hurting certain African economies further. So your hurting the people your intending to help by taking away their work and income. Also, many west African countries are not poor, they have rising and growing economies. Not to mention many of these conflicts are over.

I've met dozens of Africans in my lifetime and when it comes to the topic of blood diamonds, they all say it's pretty much everywhere and it's bullshit that there are far less. Half of the civil wars in Africa, were in countries that don't export diamonds to begin with. Uganda, Rwanda, and Sudan. Do you plan on boycotting cobalt and copper as well? Your heart is in the right place, but really diamonds are just a commodity, like any other. Blaming civil wars on women who want a diamond ring is short sighted, and shows your lack of understanding of the civil wars that took place, and their economies that supported it. Not to mention the foreign powers involved.

Buying diamonds actually helps Africa, just like buying any commodity from any other country. Without capital they won't have funding for infrastructure or schools. Africa isn't as poor and conflict torn as you think.

There might be some attraction of some women towards diamonds but not that of a bid deal in my opinion as most women I've seen do not care about diamonds in most scenarios. Some might just wanna wear them in ceremonial processions. I hardly remember when my mother wore a diamond necklace or a really expensive ring. In fact we do not even have a diamond necklace :-)

When diamonds are no longer the most valuable gem women will coincidentally lose their obsession for them. There's a planet and comet in outer space made of diamond, so assuming we harvest it the price of a diamond will hit bottom and women won't want one anymore.
They don't care about the gem, they care about the price. Want proof? Give her a cubic zirconium as an engagement ring which looks exactly the same, but she'll throw it in your face.

It's just a worthless rock that there is a lot of, the only reasons it has such a high price is because "it's shiny", companies have a monopoly on it and most importantly they make it appear as if a diamond is an expression of love.

Some diamonds are made ethically, look up "conflict free". There's also some diamond mine in a park in Arkansas so you can go there and dig up your own diamond ring for a girl!! Neat, right?

The prize of diamonds are artificially high thanks to a global olipol. There's HEAPS of diamonds, but most are held off the market to keep prizes high. Why? Because money. that's why.
