How do you deal with a jealous girl in your group of friends?

She pretends to be my friend but she sometimes gives backhanded compliments to me and tries to make me feel bad about myself whenever I get a lot of attention from everyone (which happens often).

I tried to stop talking to her but then she went all crazy and complained to our other friend in our group (who's closer to her) so I had to start talking to her again because this mutual friend of ours convinced me to do so.

She doesn't know about this whole jealously thing and I don't think she would believe me if I told her about this because she's very close to that girl (they've been friends for a longer time).

So what exactly should I do? I only have to attend classes with this girl for 2 more months.

Put her in her place. There will always be someone else she'll be a bitch to but if you tell her to stfu and stop being an ass hole she might learn her lesson. Plus she'll definitely leave you alone.

Or pull her to the side and ask her in a mature manner if she has anything against you and what is it. She'll definitely say, "Idk what you are talking about but, I definitely don't have anything against you." Then you tell her the way she acts or the way she says things to you bothers you and it hurts your feelings and ask her why she says those things, she won't have an answer she'll be speechless. She won't be used to people calling her on her shit. Then she'll probably say , "I didn't know, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to." And you say, don't say those things or act that way again to me please because that's why you see me not wanting to talk to you. She'll apologize a lot and she'll stop. But she might talk shit about you behind your back after that which she probably already does anyway. But it will look bad on her part for always talking about you and having shit towards you when you don't do anything to her.

Personally, I couldn't stand back and let a so called friend say bitchy backhanded compliments to me. I'd have to say something to her , or at the very least cut her off completely. I wouldn't tolerate it and pretend to be her friend if she was masking her compliments with bitchy remarks. I'm not one for intentionally causing drama , but I'm not one to be bullied either. But that's who I am.

I'm not being weak. I've dealt with jealous girls before and I was told by my close friends that it's best to just ignore them because you'll always encounter them everywhere.

It really depends on the situation. If she was a stranger or just someone you saw now and again, it would be best to ignore her. But she is supposed to be a friend of yours , and she runs in the same circles , so in that situation i'd confront her , especially when you already know ignoring her makes her kick off

It doesn't really matter if you think there is no point. You do it anyways. If you get a positive response then it could turn into a friendship worth having. If it's negative response then you just cut them off as it just saves you time from having to do it later.

If she gives you backhanded "compliments", corner her and ask her what she means, why she would say that and point out that it makes you uncomfortable and that you'd like for her to stop. It's awkward as hell but usually is enough to make loudmouths like her stop, because they thrive on making others feel awkward and uncomfortable, so when the tables are turned, they usually shut up.

Well maybe not technically but it might be worth it if it puts her in her place and makes her think twice about shit like that. You know, make her think about how she'd feel if someone else told her that. However, if you don't want to take the risk of possibly creating some drama, then I guess just ignoring her might be the best option.

Why worry about her "satisfaction" when you could try to corner her and make her feel hella uncomfortable by asking straightforward questions -> thus gaining the upper hand yourself? You don't need to flat out be like "omg you hurt me", just stare her dead in the eye and be like "and how would you fucking feel if someone told *you* that?" with the straightest face ever. Then she'll be like "wha-" and you'll be like "don't play dumb. That's childish as hell" and walk away.

You can be friends with whomever you want just like the other girls in your group. Simply put, when she’s around you can continue to talk to everyone but her (don’t be rude to her just keep your distance). Whenever you have events and you’re inviting your friends do not invite her (due to the way she acts). You do not have to explain yourself and if the girl you do not like tells the other girls about your behavior you can tell them to her to address it with you. Sometimes you have to set people straight so they won’t mess with you.

I’ve dealt with that but eventually I distanced myself with no explanation. Where there are too much friends there is just too much drama so the best bet is to distance yourself. Don’t feel bad if you have to cut them off and let them know.
