  Supposedly some credible evidence came forward that he harassed women over the years and even raped a couple of them. The company he worked for fired him immediately and he was banned from the gaming forums. Nobody who has any inside info is willing to talk about it.

  If he was fired there is a chance there's decent evidence. Firing someone without evidence for inappropriate conduct opens up a company to lawsuits and most don't do that. Most will just reassign people unless there's clear prove.
  
  As for the forum I'm not sure which one but most require proof of conduct before they do anything and to ban someone suggests they have proof. Most gamers are men. I doubt they'd risk it getting around that they banned someone without evidence.
  
  At the very least I would be extremely cautious with your own personal safety. If it's gone this far there's a good chance it will go farther.
  
  You don't need the drama or the chance of risking your personal safety.
  
  I would not go around spreading rumors. But if someone asks why you've distanced yourself be honest.
