Why are you calling yourself petite if you are in average range?

I think its extremely cringe when you're within the average range for a woman and call yourself petite. Please, look up the definition for it. Petite means someone that is short for their country and small in both height and weight. In the USA the average height is 5'4. If you are at least 5'3 you are by no means considered to be a small woman. 5'2 and under is usually the cutoff. Look at the bell curve as well. If you are 5'3+ and just very thin/skinny, then say you're skinny. Your weight alone does not make you petite. It depends on country. In some Asian countries petite women are as short as being 4'10 and shorter. In European countries it can be 5'5 and under, but generally speaking the world average height is 5'3 so most women 5'3+ maybe even sometimes 5'2 aren't usually petite. Average does not equal short and small

I am not a girl so this does not effect me as much, but I think the reason some people would call themselves petite is because of the patriarchal society that we live in. don't quote me on this, but western society, and many other societies as well seem to find that when you are smaller or skinnier you are more beautiful and will be more successful. This also makes so that some people envy petite people and wish to be more "beautiful", something that would be wrong either way and for many reasons. This is an interesting questions though.

As a guy, I can assure you that you're one of the men that doesn't really know wtf is short for a woman and what is petite. When a girl is not short and skinny, she is just that. she's skinny, thats all. she's not petite at all. When a woman is actually short, I would say at least 1 standard deviation below average height, then they are actually "petite." Roughly 80 - 85% of women aren't petite. What most guys think of when they see average range women is automatically labeling them as small, short, "petite." It doesn't work like that, ever. Average, short and tall is based off of the average height, its never relative and never was. I agree with you that society finds slimmer and skinnier women more attractive, but not necessarily petite. They're two different categories. Petite = height AND weight, skinny = just weight only.

Also to argue that women that are smaller are more beautiful and more sucessful. Thats bullshit. Height has no affect on the beauty or sucess of a woman. There are several tall women that are beautiful and extremely successful, surely if they're tall and you're saying they're not small, then they shouldn't be beautiful and aren't usually successful? BS. I can argue with you that height is more of a trait that affects men, but not so much women in regards to attractiveness and overall success. FWIW, sometimes women that aren't so tall might not be able to have certain kinds of jobs because they aren't fit for it, like leadership positions or something similar. But that doesn't mean they can't be successful. Lawyers, doctors, engineers, etc.. that are high paying, you can be any height for. And this goes for everyone. Height should never be a factor that inhibits success. Yes, there are studies that say tall men get paid more, tall men are more sucessful etc... If you wanna buy into that bullshit then go for it. There are plenty of men that aren't tall that are very successful. The richest man in the world, Jeff Bezos, is only 5'7. Some of the highest paid women out there are also tall as well. Both go against the norm, so if you want to get brainwashed and go by what society says then you're just going to have this biased thinking and spew out generalizations when there are plenty of people that go against all of that nonsense.

I found this interesting during pregnancy kept getting called petite im 5ft 2 by the way and I never considered myself this because I've always had a very long torso. Like finding a one piece bathing suit was a bitch for me. Enough to where I gave up on the search.

It really depends on the average height of your country. I dont know where you live, but if you are in the USA that is usually the cutoff for short. Its not that short and its not usually that small, but thats usually just where "short" for a woman actually starts. Average height is 5'4. If you were in Asia you wouldn't be short at all, in several countries actually. Also South American countries too.

Petite is used for clothing, in the UK if you are under 5'2/5' then you are petite. It's not about weight.

Because its an inaccurate way to describe yourself. Imagine a guy or girl that is like 2 inches above average calling themselves tall and acitng like as if they are truly this bigger man or woman compared to members of their own size. Or saying that a girl is slender when she weighs 50 pounds over the normal weight range for her height. Petite isn't only weight. Its height as well. So mislabeling yourself makes other people believe something you want to belive you are, but you actually aren't. Its cringeworthy.

As long as they can buy their clothes and have the confidence to go out it's really not your place to judge or put them down because of some very specific parameter that almost no one knows the exact meaning of. You yourself said it's variable. Honestly, this whole thread sounds like you're jealous of people taller than you claiming your title.
