Thanks!
Happy Memorial Day!
Some guys do this because they don't want to look lame or uncool in the company of their friends in public or in the company of attractive ladies. Another reason that some guys might do this is because some guys are not secure with their feelings to sit next to another guy. They might be afraid of what other people think or say about them. Hope my advice can help. Good question too.
It's kind of like the "1, 3, 5 rule" of the men's bathroom. If you use a urinal you need to be spaced apart by one urinal, or you will be considered gay since standing next to another urinal in use can create a very awkward situation. Same rule applies in seating.
Ok the urinal I understand, especially if there is notdividing wall in between. But the movie theater stuff is ridiculous.

My only guess is that they don't want to be considered or perceived as a couple of f**ots. However, three years ago, the first time since 1971, when I last went to a movie with a guy friend we did sit in adjacent seats. Then again, it was a sneak preview of what was to become a box office smash and the place was crowded. There was no choice.
Just went to see Hangover 2 Thursday and we had 5 guys and we all sat by each other.
BUT if say its a movie that won't be crowded, why would you sit by eachother? An extra seat is nice for arm room and etc.
Usually there's a group of us and were all sitting together
But if it's just two people then it's kinda weird and people would interpret it the wrong way
So I might want a chair empty with my popcorn to sit, if I thought people would react that way
I chill next to my friend in the theater, don't really see what the problem there is. In fact until today when I read your topic I didn't realize other guys did that =/
Well, if I'm with a friend I always sit a seat away so I can have the akimbo (lol) armrests
I've never seen that before but what do I know. Sounds stupid.
coz it is gay.. and guys don't like gay sh*t.. its just like gguys holdin hands in public
You know what I never understood about that whole "guy gay phenomenon phobia thing", is you say that, and sure, I can respect that, but then why do guys play weird immature pranks on one another, such as, kissing each others' asses, putting your ass on another man's face, showing your penis to each other constantly, and I could give a list really? For example, the television show, "Jackass", the quote on quote "gay sh*t", that goes on in that show is ridiculous...So I don't get the movie thing?
due.. one thing is for sure you do that sh*t in ma country and you might end up dead.. I don't give a f*** bout gay pipo..thats what they chose but in my country... dude..
what? lol I don't do that and I have never seen that phenomenon.
I like to talk about the movie during it.
I don't see the problem. Some men think it's gay though.
So there is no fighting over an arm rest, duh.
Precisely my thoughts. Double the problem if drink holders are involved.
