How do you know if she's waiting for your text or not?

There’s this girl I'm interested in and I never know whether to text her because she hardly ever initiates conversation. When I do text her, though, she always responds. I don't text that often. So if I wait for her to text, she won't and then I'll end up texting. I'm talking about every other week or so. How can you know whether she is waiting for me to text her or if she is just being nice and really doesn’t want to talk to me that much?

People tell me if she gives short responses, she's not interested. But what does that mean? Like "yes" or "no" or that stuff? Because I don't text her stupid stuff like "how was your day", but rather make a teasing comment or something that refers to something we talk about. And she'll reply to that.

to be honest , I think she is just being nice , no one else is texting her . if she's short it means she doesn't wanna talk , or something is wrong . just ask her what she think of you or why she won't ever carry on a conversation . maaybe she is just shy ? girrls are very complicated . so I would just ask and see wasssup

You can't really tell. When I don't text a guy I'm interested in I'm just scared that I might come off a clingy or annoying but then again short responses could mean that she's not much of a texter or she's just not interested. Maybe try hanging out with her in real life and see where things go?
