Why would this girl still wear a mask despite almost everybody not wearing it anymore?

There is a girl at my school UCLA that still wears a mask everywhere she goes. She’ll wear it in the parking, workout, all over while in public. Her friends don’t wear masks anymore. It’ll be hot and she’ll still wear it.

Other than maybe covid (which I doubt it at this point) why would a girl still wear a mask at all times? I know it’s not covid cause there is very few times when she doesn’t wear the mask in public.

Maybe she is diabetic or has some other condition which makes her immuno-compromised and she is particularly paranoid over the prospect of contracting covid.

Maybe she lives or works with someone who is vulnerable….. although wearing a mask is to protect others ….. maybe she is just cautious, or vulnerable herself. Those who are vulnerable still wear them, perhaps because it makes them feel safer

That’s absolutely right! I didn't even think about that! Maybe she has an elderly family member, or a family member with an immune disorder like leukemia! So she wears it to protect someone she loves? Also… the mask policy at UCLA, their NEW policy on masking that goes into effect on April 11th requires masks be worn inside 💯% of the time, and even outside if in a small group. Maybe she has a respiratory condition, like cystic fibrosis (she’s in the prime age for it). Also, its Los Angeles… Need I say any more?

@Shamalien Actually, given that even I minor respiratory infection might kill her, and it’s a genetic condition… No, I don’t think a mask would make cystic fibrosis worse.

You and the majority of the general public are completely uneducated when it comes to the real world efficacy of masks. A clean mask for the first 30 minutes may provide some minor benefit if not taken off at all, but after this point if not replaced it actually increases the chance of respiratory infection

@Shamalien Sure, a cloth mask is useless, and a surgical mask, is only good until the moisture absorbs through the mask, but an N-95 mask would me okay for several hours. Maybe she changes her mask every hour or two, how would you possibly know, its just a girl who goes to your school! You DID ask for an alternate reason as to why she may be wearing a mask, and I gave you one.. Here I’ll give you another… Maybe she has leukemia, and her immune system is shot! You don’t know. (But I DID say “It’s Los Angeles… Need I say any more?” If you are going to live in. A liberal stronghold, wtf do you expect?)

An n95 is not appropriate for people with any kind of lung condition due to the added effort required to breath

@Shamalien Why do you just want an argument? Jesus! You asked for an explanation as to why she might wear a mask when nobody around her does. I gave you TWO. Also, in almost EVERY answer I’ve noted that it IS Los Angeles, what do you expect… also (and I may be crazy here) but MAYBE she is just trying to obey the schools mask policy, which STILL requires masks indoors, and outdoors when in groups (you did say she was always in a group) here is the current UCLA masking policy… odd that you wouldn't know that masks are required outside when in groups, since you go there?

@Shamalien Also, if she had Leukimia, then its b/c of her immune system, and absolutely nothing to do with her ability to breathe! When I was reading this I felt like you were talking about me. I do literally the same thing. I don't know why that girl does it but the reason I always wear the nose mask is that:
A. I don't feel comfortable without it (yk with all the stares)
B. I am people shy so it just helps
C. It's just my nicest way to say I don't want to speak to anyone without actually talking

I know right? I guess some people are hard-core when it comes to rules. I know someone that tests themselves everyday. In the uk you don't even need to isolate when you are sick
