I met someone with incredible chemistry (at least from my side) while on vacation, we were part of a group but ended up spending most of our time together for the last few days. She'd stand close, lots of touch and eye contact. We had a great time and laughed loads. She never suggested she has a boyfriend to me, but I discovered through her FB profile once I came home they've been together for years. I'd overheard part of a quiet conversation she had with her friend that she's "messaging him once a day but no more than that", which I now assume was about the boyfriend.

We were both really sad to be leaving and she refused to let go when hugging goodbye. We'd had a pretty deep chat that morning though, so it's possible the hug was in response to that. I gave her a tiny coin as a kind of joke when I left but she said she'll "keep it for the rest of her life", totally seriously.

We've been chatting all day every day since I came home, she'll reply immediately, puts effort into the conversation and has been sending photos of what she's up to. She still hasn't mentioned her boyfriend, but now I'm just a bit confused - does it seem like she could be interested in me? She said she'd like to hang out when I suggested it (although haven't yet set a date / time) but now I'm not sure how to handle things.

You handle it the only reasonable way and that is to inform her that you will no longer keep the contact as "intense" as it is now.

The reason is simple. She is in a relation and you two do everything to jeopardize that relation. Since you knew a long time ago she was in a relation, you should have stopped getting her attention and not just do as if you did not know.

You need to just flat out ask if she is involved with someone and what the nature of that relationship is. Is it serious? Are they friends with benefits? Are they exclusive? Not?

Depending on the answer, you act accordingly. If she is involved exclusively with someone, you tell her you just want to be friends and the level of communication and flirting stops. If she isn’t involved or she is just hooking up with someone, then you have to think of whether that is worth it to you.
