How were women my age ready for motherhood many years ago but I'm not ready?

I don't feel ready at all for that life changing event. If I were to get pregnant right now, I would be freaking out and probably finding the nearest clinic to end it. I wouldn't want to continue a pregnancy.

Many years ago, a 19-22 year-old woman was already ready. She was a full grown woman not just physically but mentally too. My mind still feels childish. Why am I not ready like they were?

I don't even have desires for a kid like they did at that time. Many years ago, a woman my age already had those baby urges I'm lacking.

My mother graduated from high school in 1959. At that time very few women went on the college, and since job opportunities for women were limited, most so got married- including my mom. At that time, birth control options ranged from limited to nonexistent, so that pregnancy was a forgone conclusion. Terminating was out of the question. By the time my mother was age 21 she had two kids: myself and my younger sister.

Things are different now with women having many more options.

I was born when my parents were 30 and their friends said they were getting a late start at parenthood. Most of my parents' friends had their first kid in their late teens. Back then it was easy to support a family and people grew up faster. Their parents expected them to get their shit together and move out right after high school. You could buy a house with a job at the gas station. My parents' first house in Redondo Beach California cost $30,000 in the year 1969. They sold it in 1988, but now that house is worth over $1,500,000. It's a different world now.

Because maybe you still don't know. Aaand that's okay. I knew I didn't want any little bastards with some dumb mofo... and to this day, I still don't. I'm reminded every week of why I don't need one. So I just open my ears and it does the trick- don't need one. Ever.

join the club. I didn't think I was ready either but when it happens, you will be ready, You will learn to be parents together. You can't learn to be a parent before birth happens but you can train for it.

They were given responsibilities at young ages back then, and so their sense of responsibility grew sooner. Still applies to people today too.

Meanwhile I'm stuck at a childish game at this moment. All I think about is finishing college, going to movies with my friends, going to parties, playing chess and video games, cooking for myself sometimes and walking in the park... I still think like a teenager in HS, like a kid.

Those things aren't in and of themselves childish. Like I said, level of responsibility and drive are what determine being adultishness, not levels of fun.

Because every generation get spoiled longer and more than the last. That’s why we’re homemakers back in the day I had no rights so making babies was just a priority
