+1 yI hope it's not offensive because I switched to (at least mostly tried to) saying female because when I said "girl" that was found offensive.
I got called out like I was the worst ever. This damn site is girls ask guys for fucks sake. I've been getting away with referring to the genders as "dudes and chicks" but I've been called out for saying chicks when I was in the military. I was just a damn office bitch taking a phone call and went from the phone to ask someone else a question about her problem..."This chick says bla bla bla, what do I do?" I get back on the phone and she is immediately like "I'm not a chick!!" She overheard me talking. I don't give a fuck she could've grown a damn dick for all I know, I was just trying to solve her stupid mother fucking problem and she has to put me on blast. Chicks seem a bit sensitive to whatever you call them. Shit, I've walked around calling dudes shitbags and pussies and none of the dudes got all offended like that. Like I know with 100% confidence in being able to call a guy a faggot to his face, but if a chick is around... prepare to get fucked in a dumpster, set on fire, then thrown in the gutter and used as a handwarmer.12 Reply- +1 y
Have you tried woman? I've only got in trouble for that one when I use it to address her.
- +1 y
@snackthatsmilesback Yes, I've made the move to say woman when I'm directly talking to a woman. I can only get in trouble for it so many times until I change my ways.

The females find everything offensive. The thing is, you're not supposed to care. Offensive is taken, never given.
In my opinion though, no. I'll use that word for someone I don't know and haven't seen who is not male (and vice versa for someone who's not female). Also, many girls and guys I don't consider "women and men" even if they're adults. I think a "woman" (and "man") holds a higher level of respect, like Mister or Miss.12 Reply
It's not offensive, per se. It's just a red flag that many women are tuned into because that sort of language is very popular among incels and other misogynists.
They prefer to call women "females" for primarily two reasons, whether they'll admit it or not.
1. It takes away our humanity. "Women" always refers to humans. "Females" makes it sound like they're talking about an animal. Which makes a lot of sense if the person using the word doesn't consider us equal to them.
2. It makes them sound like scientists. Incels love to use sciencey-sounding words, because they think it makes the things they're saying somehow less ridiculous.
Not everyone who uses the word is a misogynist or incel. But most of the time, when I hear someone using it routinely, instead of the word women, I find myself getting suspicious, and most of the time my suspicions prove to be correct.
It's a perfectly acceptable word to use, especially if you're using "female" as an adjective, like it is intended. But if you only use that word, instead of using the word "women," I start to wonder why.30 Reply

I'd say no... depends how it's used I guess, some might try to portray it in a negative way? A woman is better, it means female human... to me it still means only that. But it wouldn't bother me either way, that's what I am, I'm perfectly happy this way and nobody could make me feel anything but great about being a woman.
The one I hate is "the birthing person" wtf.-.30 Reply
+1 yI think it's been used to be dehumanizing, like talking about another species. Instead of referring to men and women as people it's men are people and females are homo sapiens; more animal and less reason. Which you probably won't be talking about them like animals, but for some the term females is associated with that mindset so it can be offputting/a red flag.

Nope.
Anonymous(18-24)+1 yAt first I thought it was because I saw it being used only in place of the word Bitch. Because the word bitch was getting dudes cancelled so they used female instead. I also only saw it used derogatorily. But now that I've seen it used casually by men and women I don't find it offensive anymore

https://www.youtube.com/embed/NE_MAvGxbKI20 ReplySeeing people say “I am offended by that” seems to be a bit of a buzzword at the moment. I am a female and I can be called as such providing they don’t massacre the English language with bad grammar when they do it.

+1 yIt comes down to context and intent.
saying female or male or even child etc in themselves are nothing.
however put “Typical” in front of each….
it also has to be recognised that it’s not really species specific.10 Reply- 356 opinions shared on Girl's Behavior topic.
+1 yDepends how it used. It definitely rubs me the wrong way when people refer to women as “females” bc female is an adjective, not a noun 😅
and 99% of the time, they’re talking negatively about them when they refer to them that way.22 Reply- +1 y
you hit the nail on the head, a lot of the time it is used in a way that dehumanizes who ever they are talking about
- +1 y
Talking negatively about people is offensive, regardless of if they are calling people men, women, dirtbags, male/female, chicks, dudes, ladies, or gentlemen. I mean, obviously dirtbags or curse words are offensive in and of themselves. But female is also a noun, at least according to the dictionary.

10 Reply 300 opinions shared on Girl's Behavior topic. No it's not. And I don't understand why someone would think it is.
21 Reply- +1 y
I don't think it is, either. But some people do, and some people are just looking for another reason to be offended because why? Cancel culture. It's cool to be offended, it makes you special to be oppressed. Everyone is oppressed, and it's a contest to see who can be the most oppressed.
But the rationale behind it is that "female" is an adjective. That is, a word that describes a noun. So splitting hairs, the idea is if you say "females are/aren't such and such" you could be talking about cows, frogs, mice, rabbits, humans, or anything that has female gendered members of its species. Some people don't want to be lumped in with the rest of the animals.

A lot of the time it's intended to dehumanize the woman or group of women it is in reference to. Most people would considered terminology that is dehumanizing offensive.
- +1 y
@Subarugirl I'm not sure it's "a lot of the time" and even if it is, there's no reason to take offense. I wouldn't be offended if you called me "male".

How ever I think that we can all agree that replacing woman with the word female is designed to be dehumanizing.
- +1 y
We'll all we have to do is compare the definitions.
Female:
ADJECTIVE
of or denoting the sex that can bear offspring or produce eggs, distinguished biologically by the production of gametes (ova) which can be fertilized by male gametes:
"a herd of female deer"
NOUN
a female animal or plant:
Woman:
NOUN
an adult female human being - +1 y
unless it is being used in a medical, biological, legal or academic context there is really not much or a reason to refer to a women as females
- +1 y
“How ever I think that we can all agree that replacing woman with the word female is designed to be dehumanizing.”
Hah. - +1 y
@Subarugirl I don't think we all agree. nor are we using the same dictionary, evidently. Cut and paste from a quick google of "female definition":
"
noun: female; plural noun: females
a female animal or plant.
"females may lay several hundred eggs in two to four weeks"
a female person; a woman or girl.
"both males and females accumulate economic knowledge at a similar rate""
adjective: female
of or denoting the sex that can bear offspring or produce eggs, distinguished biologically by the production of gametes (ova) which can be fertilized by male gametes.
"a herd of female deer"
relating to women or the female gender.
"a female name"
(of a plant or flower) having a pistil but no stamens.
(of parts of machinery, fittings, etc.) manufactured hollow so that a corresponding male part can be inserted.
If you want to be offended of course, it's best to cherry pick the definitions that fit the narrative.
you say "unless it is being used in a medical, biological, legal or academic context..." so basically 90% of the time it's totally fine. But if a doctor, nurse, CNA, EMT, legal aide, attorney, police officer, teacher, professor, or any other slew of extremely common professions (especially if you put them all into a larger group, it's unlikely you don't see several of these people every day) who is used to using this term in what you deem an appropriate fashion then clocks out, it's inappropriate? I don't know about that.
