Why are some girls standoffish and rude around their crushes?

I just don't understand. Why would some girls be rude around people they like? Maybe they run away, avoid them or even act cold with single word answers but deep inside they're just supressing their feelings even though they really like them. It's just so destructive to yourself and YOUR CRUSH. Why do it?

I do that too. I think it's because I cringe at myself when I try to be nice to someone. I feel a lot more comfortable just running away from them or being prickly towards them.
