Is this common shy behaviour from a shy girl who has a crush on someone?

Shortly put:

There’s a girl I know at college who’s defo shy and probably doesn’t have much confidence but she has been smiling and waving at me when I see her.

I’ve spoken to her a few times recently and she was quiet at first but opened up and talked with me quite well. Asking questions and such, appearing nervous and quite stiff in posture. However, the last time I spoke to her, the conversation was fairly one-sided. It felt like I was doing all the talking. She did answer my questions though, albeit, quite frankly and short. She did say a couple things out of the blue after some awkward silence but this conversation wasn’t anything like the last few. She barely laughed at my jokes either but she still smiled at me when she saw me and made a joking remark regarding someone else before this conversation.
The literal day before she was really talkative.

She didn’t even say ‘bye/see you later’. Just walked off without me as we were both leaving the same way.

I saw her at dinner the same day and I swear I caught her looking at me from the distance a couple of times but it was so far away, I’m unsure.

One time shortly before I actually approached her, she saw me walk into the room we were in, turned around and smiled and waved and looked straight back down. I sat across from her on the other table, which was in her view, and when I looked up after sitting, she had turned her whole body the complete opposite way. 🤔

Is this common shy behaviour?

I’d also like to note that she tried talking to me a few times before Christmas, but I wasn’t mentally aware of her too much back then so I was quite abrupt with my responses. Only just started speaking recently after catching her smiling/waving at me and saying ‘hello’ to my quite loudly and happily when she’s with her friend.

My mother was shy when younger and seems to reckon this girl likes me when I explained to her in messages.

I mean.. technically depends on the kind of person she is, me personally I AM shy put not with my crush I'm playful, flirty a bit, and overall try to show this fearless persona. She doesn't seem so usual, that's not being shy. I feel she has attached to you and feels comfortable with you and thats good! But that turning the whole body to see you seems like checking you ok, I bet as a girl I glance several times if someone is in my interest. I think she likes you or is into you.

Sorry, I think you might have misunderstood the turning the body part.

So, I was walking into the room, she wasn’t facing towards me but I think she saw me out her peripheral vision and turned her head, smiled, waved and turned her head right back around and looked down at the table. She was on her own at the time but I still didn’t have the courage to approach then.

After she waved, I then sat on the opposite table she was already facing her body towards and once I sat down and looked up, she had already turned her entire body and was facing away from me (basically with her back to me).
I’m not sure if this was because she was blushing or she felt nervous with her crush seeing her face?

This happened before I actually approached her a few days later for a proper chat.

Yeah sounds like she may have a crush on you. I’m quite shy, and if I like a guy I weirdly act as if I don’t.. so can be quite blunt, appear ‘moody’, body language is facing away not toward you etc… which is obviously conflicting for the guy. I think it stems from worrying about getting rejected.

so yeah it’s possible that she has developed a crush for you and now feels a bit tense around you and you make her nervous.

It’s half term now so I won’t see her for just over a week, but when I return, should I just keep saying ‘hello’ to her and smiling? Even try and talk to her again and see if she responds differently.

Basically take it slow and calm. Don’t rush anything.

After our first two proper one-to-one, convos, she did mention both days she goes the library ‘on her own’ for a few hours before lessons but it took me a few days to register if she was indirectly asking me to go and sit with her there.

If you like her then I definitely going to need to be the one that does all the work in the very beginning, as in you need to let her know you like her.
Can’t you add her as a friend on social media and message her throughout half term? Stroke up some convos and drop in a few compliments? If she 100% likes you she will love that and will probably let her walls down a bit more.

I’m not sure what her surname is. I had planned on asking her for a number or whatever she messages on however I haven’t come across her for the last two days and we break up for half term today. 😔

After half term, if we’re in a more talkative convo again, I’ll ask her for a way to message each other.

It definitely sounds like she has formed a relationship with you more than just schoolmates. She probably does have a crush on you and would like to keep being able to talk to you. Since she is able to talk to you more openly it may be best to try to continue talking to her to see where she stands in regards to a relationship.

Thank you for your input. We don’t share classes as we are on different courses, but see each other around campus residences’.

I just got confused from her awkward/uninterested behaviour on our 3rd proper conversation. I didn’t see her for the next two days.

Going to hopefully speak to her after half-term.
