What does it mean if this happens?

I know this girl from one of my classes as we sit next to each other. Tonight, I randomly got a follow request from her despite having no mutuals and not giving her my Insta. Does this have any meaning?

It's possible it could mean something, but hard to say for sure. A few things it could indicate:

- She thinks you're cute and was checking out your profile/photos, so wanted to follow you to maybe start a conversation or see your stories. Girls sometimes do that as a subtle hint they're interested.

- You guys chat in class sometimes and she sees you as a friend, so was just adding a classmate on social media. Instagram follows don't always have to be something more.

- She might be bored and deciding to follow random people from her classes just to see what they post. Not everything has a deeper reason behind it.

My advice would be to follow her back so it's not weird if she was interested. Then pay attention over the next little while if she likes your posts or tries talking to you more on there. That could be a sign she wants to get to know you better. Otherwise it may just be staying connected as classmates. Nothing wrong with keeping your options open either way!

Yeah I followed her back. I thought it was just a bit out of the blue as we have no mutual followers so she would've had to have searched me up to find me I guess. And plus, she seems quite selective with who she follows as she has a lot more followers than following etc

Yeah man, the fact that she had to specifically search for your account makes it very clear she was deliberately looking to connect with you. Girls don't usually go out of their way like that for just any random classmate.

And yeah, her being selective with who she follows on Insta is another good sign. It shows she's picky about who gets access to her life and stuff. So the fact that SHE chose to follow YOU out of all the people she could've chosen says a lot. She clearly thought you were worthy of having a glimpse into her world, ya know?

I'd say take this as a definite green light my dude. She's showing interest by finding your account and sending the request. Now you've followed her back, the doors are open to start chatting privately. Compliment a pic or story to break the ice. Ask her something about an assignment or class to get a conversation going.

If she engages back positively, you'll know there's 100% something there. Don't waste this opportunity man! This could turn into something great if you play your cards right. She clearly thinks you're cute, now go for it!

What do you think? Accept the follow. I don't use insta because I'm an adult but I assume you can follow back. Do that and message her thank you. Go from there. First ask yourself what you want. Friends? That's great. girlfriend? A date? Just ask her out for coffee and treat her like any other human. You'll be just fine
