What does it mean if a guy jokingly calls you his girlfriend?

Alright so there's this guy that calls me his girlfriend but we're not dating, we barely talk and have different friend groups. He's joking when he says it and I know he's not serious. Sometimes he would just come up to my desk and jokingly take my stuff and run away with it or whatever but he does that to a couple other people so it doesn't really mean anything. But a couple days ago in class out of nowhere he came up to me and told my friend "she's my gf" and then he asked me "you're my girlfriend, right? And I was like "sure i guess". He goes up to a lot of people and just randomly starts talking to them but i never hear him calling other random girls his girlfriend. So he came back to our desk and asked my friend in a jokingly way "are you touching my gf" and then asked me "is she bothering you?" Then after that my friend asked him "if she's your girlfriend then kiss her" and he was like "alright bet" but I was like "nahh I'm good" because I never thought of him like that. But after this happened I think I'm starting to have feelings for him anddd I don't wanna get the wrong message that he likes me and like him back but then realize he doesn't really like me because this happens a lot. But then yesterday one of my friends came up to me and asked me if me and him were dating and I was like "no, why?" and she was like "because he keeps saying you're his gf" so apparently he's telling other people in other classes I'm his girlfriend. Then the same day at lunch one of my friends went up to him and asked him if we're actually dating and he said "no it was a joke" but then after lunch in class he said to my friend "That's my girlfriend" and he was looking at me. Then he hugged another girl and I saw him look right at me from the corner of my eye and right after that he said again "you're my girlfriend right" and I was like "yup". So what does this mean? Is he flirting with me? Does he wanna see my reaction if he were to actually ask me out? Someone please tell me what this means.

If he's telling people tht its bc he wants you to be his girlfriend.. guys tht joke while saying domething serious means he's serious. he's waiting for you to say tht u are or waiting for you to make the first move. If u like him like tht let him know. Good luck n best wishes
