There was a girl in my university class that I thought was very nice. She’s around 24–25 and I’m younger. We were in the same class for two years, and during that time a few things happened that confused me:
After one lecture she came with another girl. She stayed in the background smiling while the other girl praised me for the questions I asked.
Later, at a fair, I said hi to some classmates and she was the one who greeted me the most clearly and even invited me to sit with their group.
When I did a certain imitation, she always smiled.
Once, when we were sitting close, she asked which country I’m from, even though we hadn’t spoken at that moment.
In a group chat, she didn’t hold back with compliments when I shared my part of an assignment, and she always addressed me by name.
Once she randomly messaged me on Facebook asking about our supervisor.
During all this, I replied very briefly, partly because I worried she might have a very jealous boyfriend, and partly because I didn’t want to misread signals.
After the program ended, I sent her a message thanking her for being consistently kind, polite, and encouraging. She replied warmly. She said it was really nice of me to write, that it hadn’t always been easy in class with all the drama, and that she appreciated noticing even small gestures of support from classmates. She added that “we are in this together” and that I shouldn’t hesitate to reach out if I ever needed something or someone. Finally, she thanked me and said it was comforting to know there were at least a few “normal” people in the class — and included a friendly 🥰 emoji.
Despite this, she never added me on Facebook, even though she has hundreds of friends, and I never added her either.
Since then, we haven’t had contact, and we weren’t really close outside of class.
My question:
Was she interested, or was she just being friendly/social?
