Is it common for shy guys to immediately look away when they see their crush?

I have noticed that this guy does this thing where he will be staring at me and when I catch him he immediately looks away.

There have even been times when I have seen him lookin at me out of my peripheral vision and he quickly looks away when he sees me, sometimes starig at the ground.

He even does this if we pass each other- when he sees its me it seems like his first reflex is to look away quickly. He will talk to me though when I say hi so I don't think he is completely trying to avoid me.

He is also not very good at holding eye contact with me. He rarely looks in my eyes directly when talking. He will often look to the side or what seems like my forehead but not my eyes.

Is this just a shy thing? Or something else at work here?

I am a shy guy and I do "literally" all those things lol. Also because I am a shy guy I do look away when the girl I like looks at me. But I also look away when another random girl looks at me and I look at her as well though. If he acts "different" around you then he probably likes you. Check how he acts around other girls and around you. Also if you catch him looking the next time, you should maybe throw in a little smile? If he likes you he will smile back. Don't make it seem like you are desperate or creepy though. Just... be natural.

He does give me a vibe he is a little unsure of himself when I talk to him and I don't see that when he is talking to other girls. I get this vibe from how he talks to me in conversation. He will often ask me a question, look to the side, and add "or" to the end of it like he isn't sure. I smile at him to make him feel comfortable and when I do he will smile too, but look to the side and not AT me. If I laugh he at least smiles back but doesn't look at me! He does tend to face me and contribute

To our conversation though so I don't think it's like I creep him out and he wants to leave lol. I haven't seen him talk to many girls, but when I have he seems a lot more engaged and friendly with them. With some other girls he will be more reserved but I don't get the idea he is unsure of himself. He is very very different from the first time I met him though.. He seemed much more confident and friendly. He was even joking around a little! I did not get the idea he was unsure of himself then.

Hahah, I literally do all the stuff your telling me he does.. But yea, I think that he might like you. I'm not sure because I'm a shy guy and I do that to any attractive girl that I talk with. Lol, the part where you explained to me how he acts when you two are talking. How he looks and smiles and looks away and such. I'm saying that I do that with the girl I like when I do talk with her. And I'm saying that I don't just act like that around the girl I like but with other girls as well hahah. I purposely "act" like I don't like the girl I fancy but really, I do fancy her.. Yea, I understand how you feel though. Felt the same exact way towards a girl I liked for about a year now.. just kind of realized today that she probably doesn't feel the same way towards me. Sucks, and now I never trust my instincts! But the only reason why I said he might not have a crush back is because the stuff you are telling me he is doing(looking away when talking with you and smiling and then looking away and such), I do that when I talk with people, not just with the girl I like.

i'm not sure, I have noticed that he remembers things about me. but he could just have a really good memory. I have noticed that he gets really happy if I remember something he said or something about him- his face and eyes kind of light up and he smiles a lot.

i have definitely caught him looking at me while he doesn't think I'm looking at him, but he quickly turns away like I said. my friends have also noticed him staring at me and they also said he glanced over at me multiple times

he is definitely around me a lot, but that could just be a coincidence because I'm trying to be around him lol. his face seems to "light up" when he sees me- his eyebrows kind of shoot up and his eyes get kind of shiny? tough to explain but stuff like that gives me the idea he likes seeing me.

umm there was one time when I walked past him and didn't say anything because he was talking to someone and I noticed he had kind of a shocked/surprised expression on his face. I did notice he was staring at me while talking to his friend. that gave me the idea that me not paying attention to him has some kind of impact on him and that he is not indifferent to me.

i might be reading into a whole lot of nothing because I want him to like me lol, let me know what you think!

Hahah! I like how you think. I think just like you. It's a good sign that his eyes sparkle when he sees you or whenever you are around. Be careful though because he might just be really happy that day or something. I'm saying this because I've recently had a bad experience with this myself. I thought this girl liked me because her eyes would sparkle when I was around and she would occasionally glance at me and when I look back she would like look down or something.

i have noticed is that he will make the effort to share lots of personal information with me that I don't ask for when we are talking which gives me the idea he's open to me as a person

Made me laugh when you told me about how when you walked past him and didn't notice him and how that made him surprised or something, Hahah! I think just like this when I am around the girl a fancy. But like you said though, just don't read into that too much haha.. It could be because he was surprised that you weren't paying attention to him or it can also be that his friend said something to him that surprised him. You never know lol.

Okay him making the effort to share personal information is a good sign! That show's he feels comfortable around you. Maybe the next time you two are around try and lightly/subtly touch him. Like maybe walk past him and lightly touch him with your arms.

i have touched him lightly on his arm to get his attention before and I noticed he sat up really straight and got rid of all distractions and paid attention to what I was saying, I got the idea he was being very attentive which is good.

should I continue initiating some type of touch to make him a little more comfortable? I felt like I kind of shocked him or something when I tried touching him before and I don't want to weird him out!

That's another good sign. Yes, you should try and touch him some more.. If you notice that he doesn't nudge away or something then most likely he is comfortable with you. And that is a really good sign that he is attracted to you.

Well, now that your a guy, i have a crush on someone but when im around he looks down or looks at his friends, but when i look away he looks at me, how i know? My friends warn me and i look back and he's there staring, then he looks away, when we talk he smiles a lot, and he lowers his voice because when his with his friends he's preety loud. Yeah the look away is reliable. It's easier to rule out the alternatives if you really are unsure but I don't think that's necessary here. Basically if he isn't pursing his lips... his eyes slowly rolling away... like women do with women they don't like... then yeah he's into you.

Bonus points if he snaps his head away when he looks away, it means you got him in fight or flight mode because he finds you extra attractive.

Yes, it's a shy thing. He probably enjoys being with you and talking, but is too nervous to initiate anything. Talk to him about it, say it's okay, and it might stop him from doing it. He'll probably feel more comfortable around you if you both can openly discuss the issue too.

There is a slight chance he could be a creeper though. Just make sure he's not the stalker type before doing anything.

If it happens once or twice; ok, I get it. But if it keeps happening repeatedly, that's creepy AF. Like... he wants to look at you, has an inability to communicate and just keeps looking until it's noticed.
