What freedom means to me

Everybody wants to be free. It's a human right. Everyone has different opinions of what freedom entails. Here is what I think freedom is like:

1. No debt

Loans, mortgages, rent---all are sources of debt and means by which the masses are enslaved. In a truly free world humans would be able to have the means to buy or build houses, buy a comfortable vehicle of good quality, pursue further studies, or travel, without taking a loan. Our salary would be enough to ensure this. We would be earning enough to take care of ourselves and realise our goals and dreams. When we are actually paid what we are worth, and have something of value to show for all our hard work, we are happier and more productive, and everyone benefits in the end.

2. Thinking for yourself

A free person makes decisions for himself according to his own convictions. He is not bullied or placed under pressure or duress to change his mind or alter his beliefs.

3. Habits and indulgences.

Everyone has at least one bad habit he'd like to break, and one good habit he'd like to cultivate. Smoking, drinking, gambling, drugs, and pornography are well-known bad habits; while discipline, industry, thrift, integrity, and self control are well-known good habits. But no matter how some of us try, we can't seem to break this particular bad habit we have or cultivate the good habit we want. Often our bad habits cost us money we would like to save or spend on better things. Winning the battle against bad habits is liberating. We gain self respect when we do. We also gain satisfaction and have that much more focus on the future we want for ourselves.

4. Health.

A free person is actually healthy, not dependent on medicine or trips to the hospital, and able to walk and run about as much as he wants without pain or suffering. A healthy person enjoys life because his mind and body are well.

5. Truth

Freedom means knowing the truth and living according to that knowledge. Lies, propaganda, and delusions enslave people, serving the interests of the corrupt and the power mad and stifling creativity and innovation with groundless fears. They also give false hopes that tend to smother personal responsibility and good judgement. Ultimately, especially in times of change or crisis, lies, propaganda, and delusions unmask themselves and collapse, leading to disillusionment, frustration, and despair. But in a free world, accurate information is readily available and easily accessible. When someone knows the truth, his course in life is clear, he lives with a valid sense of purpose, and he develops character and integrity. He makes his decisions based on accurate information fromrreliable sources. He also has good grounds for confidence, and as a result, he is more secure and stable.
