Handshakes break touch barrier?

Anonymous
Handshakes are pretty formal in introduction for the 1st time. But for the last several months this guy I work with always shakes my hand everytime he sees me. And it always lingers. Sometimes its barely a hand*shake* but he'll come over to me the first time we see each other that day, and reach for my hand and just hold it as he says hello and asks a general question. We're the same age so its not elder respect. We talk regularly so what's with this exchange?

Perspective: He does shake others hands male and female but its quick & he walks off. He will find me or stop his current action to hold my hand. He hugs my friend farewell because she's outgoing and hugs everyone but he just hesitates with me and says goodbye by name. But its not like he's afraid to touch me because if he sees me again he'll grab my elbow or touch my arm to get my attention.
Does it mean something I'm not considering or just a sign of respect I'm not used to?
