I am SUPER over protective of my best friend?

hi, so my best friend is a girl and I'm super protective of her. not physically, as in I won't freak out if she is doing so etching dangerous (but if she does hurt herself I'd like. carry her across the world to safety) but more with friends and stuff and if someone is bugging her it really pisses me of and I have to hold myself down not to intervene.

I know this is normal to an extent. but I have been trying to stop it because I know I'm not her father and she had to run her own life, not me. and do girls hate this?/ should I try and stop all together?

It's perfectly normal I mean I have a friend like that too he gets really kinda protective over me like one time I told him how one of my friends hurt my wrist and he made it such a big deal so what I'm trying to say it's perfectly normal u just don't want her to get hurt and I think that's sweet
