WHY A GUY MIGHT COOL OFF AFTER SEX?


I met a guy at a party and he brought me home and got my number. I am in my early 40's, he is in his late 40's. Not the player type. More sweet and introverted.
I went on 2 dates with him. He was very interested and absolutely nice to me. Eager to see me etc. he told me he was not seeing anybody else. when I asked him if he had a girlfriend he said he would not ask me out if he did. On that second date, I slept with him.
we had very passionate (3 times!) sex, very intense and emotional. I told him I was not a casual person - I had not have sex in over one year ( I am a pretty girl but was in love with the wrong person).
I told him I wanted to see him again and I wanted us to be together. He said he had not really thought about the future but that was good ( this conversation happened during sex...)
I slept at his place. had breakfast with him in the morning and he brought me home. It was Wednesday morning. he told me that he wanted to see me again after his friend left.
the day after he texted me "happy Thanksgiving". I was super sweet I said "I hope to see you very soon!" But the following day, (the day the friend left and we could have made plans) I did not hear from him and no plans.
before sex he would send me detailed long messages about what we could do etc. Now he feels like an ice pack...
what does it mean? and what shall I do?
I don't want to have a man in my life who doesn't like me enough, it is too painful for me.
Assuming he will contact me again, shall I pull away with an excuse and fade him out?
Shall I still hang out with him but no more sex till I get a better sense of what is going on?
shall I just ignore this behavior as some form of cold feet and welcome him back into my life?

yea well said Sonjita, well the talk was kind of passionate love talk, like I want to make love with you, be with you... etc
also on Thanksgiving when he texted me and I said "i hope to see you soon xxx" he answered "yes' but then disappeared the day after...
so strange...
if he ever comes back at this point and text what would you do?
