What does it mean when a guy says 'whatever happens, happens'?

The guy said he wanted no bad vibes and wanted us to still be in each other's lives. He says we should go with the flow and if a relationship comes out of it, then it does and if not then it doesn't. What do you think of this?

can't be overly into you as he'd pursue you more clearly, sounds like he is keeping his options open so taking a laid back approach, keeps you happy without him actually having to commit
