What does it mean when a guy seems to enjoy talking to you in person but doesn’t say much over text?

Happens a lot to me. I’ll have a nice long conversation in person about anything and having a good time but as soon as I start texting them, they get all quiet and don’t say much.

The opposite happens too. Has a lot to say over text but quiet in person but I think that’s just shyness.

I have the same issue, well, had.

The guy I really fell for was like this. In person we would talk until the sun came up. Over text, nothing.

I figured this meant he wasn’t interested. I moved away, started dating my current boyfriend and was away for 2 years before visiting back with my friends.

This time, that guy and I barely said a word to each-other but kept making eye contact.

In conclusion, I think this behavior might mean he likes you but just isn’t good at written conversation.

I have 2 guy friends. One is very outgoing and talkative in person but barely ever texts, the other is very quiet and shy in person, but we can text for hours. I guess it can be up to what a guy is comfortable with. Some can get their thoughts down better through text, while some struggle to get it through by text.

I can relate to this as a guy. I could write for days or speak about any and every topic with someone I care for so long as they listen and/or text in turn... However, it's easy to feel aloft if categorically you lose sight of their interpretation of your ideas or opinion, and doubt that it's right or even welcome to speak/write further. Sentiments getting lost in translation sets the mind ablaze with insecure belief in one's worthiness, respectability, and/or role of importance.

When you're talking to someone in person, you're able to "feel the crowd", you can get an indication from their nonverbal cues as to how receptive they are to what you're saying; if it looks like you're starting to lose them, then you can make a course correction to get things back on track (assuming they don't take the personal initiative to redirect the convo to more favorable ground). But with text, you have no idea how the other person is really reacting to what you're typing, and in this current era of "ghost first, ask questions later" it really does feel like you're walking on eggshells.

I used to not be a good conversationalist, but I could write texts well. Like writing thoughtful letters almost. I was rooted in planning a conversation and forethought.

As I got better at talking I was like “well I’d rather talk to them face to face and I don’t really want to waste conversation topics during text.” I like to talk face to face with all the proper inflections and timing of a real conversations and of course being able to see their reactions. So I only text as need to have that engagement their, but would otherwise be looking to spend time together in person.

I’ve been on all sides of this thing and it just seems utterly mundane to me. It’s nothing special and it doesn’t mean anything.

Texting is a pain in the ass. It's also completely sterile because it's stripped of inflection expression gestures and so many other things that make conversation interesting. Texting is great for utility, but I'll take talking to someone face-to-face every time.

It's just because most of the guys can get more topics to talk in conversation than texting. They're more confident in conversation while get confused when it comes to texting.
Also opposite can be happens too. Some guys are shy so they can't converse correctly but same guy can talk very long on text.

This is especially the case with men in jobs which require a lot of focus, one such career would be anything to do with Motorsport where this definitely applies.

texting is a not a good way to communicate for humans in general. It's not how we've evolved to interact with each other, so it's a perfectly normal thing to not be as engaged through text message; because you can't see nor hear the person.
