Heh, well it is sort of used in that context to suggest that you are acting in a cute or playful way (probably not romantically cute, but funny cute, if that makes sense).
As he says, it's nothing to take too seriously and there's not much I can infer just from him saying that. It's pretty normal but likely means he finds you funny and playfully cute, which could hint at attraction of some sort.
It's similar to silly sausage however he may have simply refrained from using the word silly in order to avoid any confusion or negative connotations associated with what he was saying.

Sausage on its own is an endearment. Adding silly is used when you do something silly. You throw an antique vase in the air and then drop it... you get called a silly sausage. Not in a nasty way. Just a SMH.
As a British person, it’s usually used to call someone silly, kinda the same meaning as calling someone a ‘donut’. At least that’s what I grew up knowing.
