Anonymous(30-35)+1 yI don't think it's really true. Some people age well, others not so well, depending on their genetics and their lifestyle.
I think people say this because of the differences in the way men and women choose partners and how that affects their "peak sexual market value". Something which many people find to be offensive or disgusting mainly because it's based on superficial traits and not personality/character, but which is a real thing nonetheless.
I think that many people misunderstand this graph though, even the guy who created it - Rollo Tomassi. I'll explain what I mean.
Everybody knows men choose women as sexual partners mainly based on youthful looks. That's why women wear make-up to look younger, and shop at Forever 21 - there's a reason it's not called Forever 31 or 41.
Women do choose men based on looks to a certain extent, but there's more to it. A man views a woman who is good looking as a catch regardless of what jobs she does, how confident she is etc. Women don't, especially when it comes to dating long-term.
Younger women will tend to care less about that stuff and more about looks because they're just having fun in their youth. This is where women in general have the advantage because this is the point where they're at their peak of attractiveness.
Young men who are average looking haven't gained the life experience of the career success yet, they're less grounded, which is why they're at a disadvantage here.
This flips in the 30s. By the 30s the man, if (and only if) he has worked and he's smart, he's now gained some level of success. The women in their 30s are less likely to be looking for fun, they're more than likely looking to settle down, especially if they want children, so their priorities change. Many of these men will be snapped up and married already, the average age of marriage being 28, leaving fewer single marriageable men for the single women.
It's not that the men in their 30s are dating women in their 20s. It's in relation to people of the same age mostly. This is where the myth comes from I think, and mainly from guys who aren't sexually successful in their teens and 20s.
But like I said, looks-wise it's genetics + lifestyle. There are some very good looking, in-shape older women, maybe not as hot as they were in their 20s but still very good looking. And there are a lot of bald out of shape older men who dress like shit.03 Reply- +1 y
I would like this if it did not stick to the assumption that older women are less attractive than they were while younger. Charts like these work on AVERAGES. The average woman has bad genes and/or bad habits. They may drink, smoke, do drugs, eat garbage, use tanning beds, etc. This ignores women that have good genes, eat healthy, don't party and end up prettier than they started. I was cute at 18, but I still had a harder time finding a date than I do at the age I'll be tomorrow [33]. I had a dry spell that lasted 2 years when I was younger! I don't even have to be single a full day at my current age. If you put me in a room where no one's ages are known, most men assume I'm around 19-22. Even the men those ages think I'm that age. I've seen the same in many forums. When pictures are posted but ages are not included, men don't really are about age for the most part. A woman at 40 may get more interest than a woman at 20. I think the age bit is based on societal ideas of age more than how attracted men actually are to women. Women don't even peak sexually until 35. Reproductively, yes. Sexually, no.
Opinion Owner+1 y@wolfcat87
I spoke about habits and lifestyle already. The things you're saying here are things that women like to tell themselves, just like men like to tell themselves that they age like wine. Even the idea of women peaking sexually at 35 is nonsense.- +1 y
No, my answer below shows that I did indeed age like a fine wine. Not based on my opinion but based on the opinions of everyone I have known. People don't even think my kids. They are considered my siblings. My husband who is 2 years older is often mistaken for my dad. Everything I listed as heavy factors are considered fact by the SCIENTIFIC community that has been studying aging for decades. It has nothing to do with individual opinion. Even the fact that women peak sexually at 35 is scientific. Even if my anecdote doesn't cover it, scientists do.

+1 yI think it varies amongst individuals, with genetics and how much a person takes care of themselves, so it's not always gender specific.
The only downside I see for men, is losing their hair and whilst I do think most men will suffer hair loss of some sort, not all will.
Another thing, a lot of women wear make up, whilst a lot of guys don't, so it's not really a fair comparison like that, because anyone can look far better with makeup, if they apply it right, even men.00 Reply
+1 yDefinitely a myth.
The saying is said actually in reference to men being wanted more in general when they’re older because they aren’t mature when they’re younger, like in their 20s. It’s usually 30s or older when a guy decides to want to settle down and stop taking advantage of women. And it’s the stupidity of those women who make that part true. But as far as the saying itself - “aging” - no, men look worse as they get older too. They just like to believe the phrase because, like I said, the women who aren’t desirable enough to get married when they’re young use it that way. But notice how the good women are already married by the time the man gets that age because we like the men who mature before they’re halfway dead 😂Also notice how men who do mature later like that tend to get divorced by those women. Lol01 Reply- +1 y
So that explains the “aging like wine” saying = not true.
In COMPARISON, biophysically, yes they do. But what I said still stands. They age better than women, but everybody looks worse as they get older. Nobody is like wine when they’re older lol
I'm a perfect example of why this is a LIE... People say I only get hotter and younger looking with age.

My husband and I a decade ago
Hubby After 30
Me After 30 <3
Me After 30
My grandmother after 50 People think my husband is my dad, and our kids are my siblings when we go out. He looks much older than his age, and I look much younger than my age. We are only 2 years apart in age. As someone else said, it's really about genetics and lifestyle choices. I don't smoke, don't do drugs, don't drink, east somewhat healthy, and I work out from time to time.

00 Reply Just look at dating trends. Yes men definitely age better. I know these days everyone is desperate to promote "fake sameness" but that is just not reality or mother nature. Just imagine if women didn't use all the make up and creams how stark the difference would be. Live in a fantasy world if you must but the world where men desire youth fertility and beauty while women desire maturity and stability will continue to exist. I'll add to the list that men also desire chastity and purity in a woman, something that is not often found today. Men of high value anyway. I'm not saying that women can't find young men sexually attractive or that guys will not have the MILF fantasy. But both of those stereotypes are used for one thing only by the opposite sex. When it comes to long term mating and relationships women and men will choose as they always have. My advice to men is build yourself up in your career and body and then look for a young, fit kind female. My advice to women is to avoid the trap of - sleeping with a bunch of dudes while you are young and then rush and find a life partner at 30 plus. It's not going to happen - you will end up alone with wine, head meds and cats. If that life is ok with you then fine, just save money back for the therapy bills.

Anonymous(30-35)+1 ySort of, but not exactly. Physically, men and women age about the same. The difference is that the things men value in women (health, beauty, fertility) decline with age whereas the things women value in men (income, status, maturity, stability) increase with age. That's why in the dating world women's desirability peaks at age 18 whereas men's peaks at age 50.

+1 yYes, they age better than women. Take in consideration a women loses around like 80-90% of her eggs in her 30s, mens sperm count don't go down.
Men's testosterone helps them stay in better shape later on and help them look better later on as well. Not to say I wouldn't bang a women in her 30's or 40's i def will and have but its to say men do actually stay attractive longer.00 ReplyNo? It's just a myth to shame women because most of them just want to use women for sex and then keep on hoping from women to women. A man who treats you poorly is an immature man you don't want to be with. Some women look younger and better than some men. Some men look better than some women. Or others of their gender. So what? The only people who care are those who are greatly insecure.
00 ReplyI don't think there is a conclusive yes or no answer. Some do and some don't. I feel it depends a lot on how an individual looks after themselves. For eg, someone who doesn't smoke, eats right, excercises regularly, manages to sleep well to allow the body and mind to stay fresh, plus good hygiene and skincare, chances are they will age better than most people regardless of whether they're male or female.

+1 yYes, in my experience men age waaaaaaay better. Older women just have to use lot of make up and tricks to make themselves look good. Men are more natural.
I never used lot of make up when I was a teen like many girls do and my skin is smooth and I look attractive at my age now.30 ReplyI don't think it's true. I think as a society we value youthfulness in women so highly that it might look that way, but without any sort of bias, I think older people would be less attractive in general.
10 ReplyI really think it's just how our society is structured. It isn't fair, because a lot of the features that men get fawned over for are the same features women get ridiculed for. I think that's just life unfortunately.
00 ReplyIt's true. Also men tend to be better looking than women naturally in my opinion; women just have an advantage because they use makeup. Inb4 20 downvotes.

00 Reply I just think that men are more often valued for more than just there appearance and therefore less susceptible to be judged on looks alone as they age.

Which one looks better? ↗
Plus the fact that he just went anonymous, look 🤣🤣🤣isn’t that funny - +1 y
This kind of goes into the point that I made with the opinion I made.
But speaking as far as myself.
I’m almost in my 30’s at this point. And when I look back at pictures and videos I had when I was in my young 20’s I look better. A lot of it is due to different style and my charisma has evolved as well.
(No I’m legit not trying to come off conceited or anything)
But on a side note, I do not consume alcohol, nor do I smoke or do drugs.
We do not know what all the mentioned celebrities and what not. Do in their personal lives.
For all we know Leonardo Di Caprio drinks like a fish. Who knows.
But I know for a fact that if I drank, smoked and or did drugs and didn’t eat healthy most of the time like I do, try to get adequate sleep, drink a shit load of water and exercise. Best believe I would not look the same.
Again, personal lifestyle choices greatly affects a person’s aging. Regardless of gender - +1 y
