personally I find it rude like you can't be bothered to talk to us. This one guy I kinda like, like I waved and smiled at him and before he would say like hi how are you, and stuff like that or ask how long I'm working. But today he just did the up nod smile thing and kept on walking and I didn't even see him for the rest of the day. I always take it as a "hi I see you but I can't be bothered to talk to you, or even say hi". its terrible.

In that case, there are two phenomena known as 'I'm not in the mood right now' or 'I'm in a hurry'.. Those might be the ones you're looking for.. So either he doesn't like you back, or had more important things to do than you..

Wtf do you mean "cooler", I waved to a guy who teaches math at univ and he headnodded back because it's an appropriate way of "acknowledged, I greet you back, and I am on my way".

Possibly you are not in the relation that you generally assume.

I'm just an acquaintance then. The only reason I am a bit worked up about this is because I've known the guy for two weeks and he asked me to break and paid and he teases me sorta like pretending to kick the stuff I'm carrying or whatever. we do the whole Hi how are you how long are you working till.. it just like today I waved and smiled at him and he just did that weird up nod and smiled but he just kept walking ..so maybe I'm just an acquaintance.

Funny enough, that's probably the biggest fear of anyone who casually up-nods lmao.

Some guys might be too shy to start a conversation out of nowhere, especially if they like you. It's likely meant to be a friendly acknowledgement of your presence, but it could also be a sign he wants to talk to you. Personally, I only up-nod friends and people I like but don't know very well. It's meant as a sign of openness to become better acquainted.

So, if you like the guy, I would say keep yourself open to conversations and give/take every opportunity to talk. It won't take very long for him to realize that you WANT to talk him. And I'm sure that realization has had some profound implications in the past.

It is a sign off friendship, and that he considers you close to him, if he didn't he would have done a downward nod, and it isn't that he didn't want to talk he likely was busy
