Why is he so nervous around me?

I’ve been dating a guy for a few weeks now. I feel like he is always nervous around me for some reason. He waits at my door for a few minutes before ringing the door when we go on dates, shakes when we make out, and seems awkward when talking to me on the phone. He also remembers everything I say if that means anything. We haven’t had sex yet so maybe that’s why?

I feel like I am average, nothing special though.

For one I think he's still new to the dating world? Being lack of experience he may feel incompetent and hence nervous.

Another possibility is he really likes you and fear to lose you. Being extra cautious is easily misinterpreted as being nervous, awkward, even negatively as arrogant.

Finally, I think he needs assurance from you that you like him too. Without this assurance, he is unable to plan what to do next. This means his actions are impromptu and hence appears rigid and awkward.

PS: if you respond to him that you like him too, he should feel a lot less awkward in a week or two.
