Why do guys have a hard time saying I love you to Male friends?

You tend to get it before, during or immediately after something that is highly intense, emotional, potentially life changing or threatening.

I’ve used it and had it’s said to me (and group of others).

For example, I have a couple of friends who lost limbs etc, we do stuff to support them, from charity stuff to just helping to do random jobs in house they can’t really do.

It can be fucking emotional for them, as we don’t wait for them to ask for help, we just know they need it. Getting on a ladder is not really great if you have two artificial legs and an artificial hand. There is a reason these things are called life changing.

Imagine the feeling a guy has when he struggles to put up Christmas decorations, assemble his kids toys, do more than basic gardening and has to rely a hell of a lot on his wife. This is where friends come in to it and is the reason friends are important.

i had huge support from guy friends back in 2012 when I was in hospital for over 6 weeks and with getting back to normal afterwards, yes I said I love them.

it’s not gay, however the context has to be right, anyone saying it is gay, has not really faced situations where you are emotionally moved enough.

I personally don’t say it to men (other than my dad) because I know that most men are uncomfortable with it. Society taught us growing up that expressing feelings and being vulnerable shows weakness. I’m sympathetic to the feelings of most men regarding this. However, I don’t affirm it myself.
I’d be totally fine if a close male friend of mine told me he loved me. Though, I’ll admit it’s a foreign concept to me, since I was never “one of the guys” growing up. Though I’m a heterosexual cis male and played football all the way through college, most men didn’t accept me as one of them. So, I’ve never really had guy friends. There were two guys on my football team that would call my brothers, even to this day. But, because I know they adhere to this societal pressure, I know they’d never say they loved me.
Plus, although a huge stereotype, most men tend to show love nonverbally. It’s mostly their actions that convey their feelings. Though, there are plenty of men out there who are ok with saying it to other men, and I applaud them.
It’d be cool if we could start normalizing this for the next generations. It’s totally fine that some men do only express love through actions, but we should make it ok for them to do it through words to other men too, and have it not imply homosexuality. It sucks that verbally expressing love between two men is automatically considered that, but that’s a rant for another day 🤣

I dont blame them. Im not telling friends I love them when I dont. I only love God, my mom/sis/grandparents, and whoever I’m dating. Everyone else is a “like” or “dislike”

one of my former guy friends used to yell 'gay' for the slightest bit of appreciation one would show for another, so I'm guessing that's why

I don’t think I have a hard time saying it, I really don’t want to say it to a friend. It’s rare I’d ever want to say it to any friend, guy or girl. For me that’s a powerful word kept for for my significant other or family

1. Men like expressing their feelings with action instead of talk 2. Because we are more careful in how we express our emotions we really mean it when we express a feeling about it and its not just something so banal to say as if it's common, none of that men can't feel bullshit that people talk about, we do we just show it in different ways to how females usually do it.

It's because guys don't need to say it - their actions speak louder than words. If a guy is your real friend, his behavior will speak loudly to that fact, and if not, that will also be clear.
