Why do guys seem to blow hot and cold before the talking phase?

It´s the phase where a guy starts figuring out what he thinks of her because we guys generally make the decision for a girl in the talking stage so because of us don´t have with one girl at a time it seems like we heat up and then pull back because we´re in the midst of deciding who to ask out.
