My boyfriend car smells but he doesn't smoke?

I'm not against smoking weed or anything but I just wonder...

i drive my own car but looked inside his car to just look in it. I smelled the smell of weed in his car. I know what weed smells like, my friend smokes it and my older brother used to smoke it in his room when he was younger. My boyfriend car smelled just like that, that it brought back memories. There was also a can of air freshner in his car. I asked did he smoke and he said no. I asked him many times does he smoke in the past because he always smelled like cigarette smoked and he said no his older brother smokes it when he would pick him up from work. My boyfriend moved in with his grandmother less than a month and got his car back. For the longest he talked about how he lost his car, it was at his grandmother house and his grandmother was paying on it but stopped when he got in trouble. So after he moved in with her, he somehow he got it back. So thats when i looked in it to see in it for the first time. He showed me these incense that were in his car and said that is what I am smelling.

Should I just trust what he says or my gut?
My boyfriend car smells but he doesn't smoke?
