Why did he lie about his age?

So I met this guy and I was the first to talk to him on social media and you know I told him things like I wanted to be with him and stuff and if he wanted my number so I gave him my number then I told him my name and he told me his name and it was his real name. But when I told him my age which during the time I was 21 he told me he was 38 and I believed him. Which I found out he's actually 53. People told me and u know u can find someone with their number & name. So when I told him that I found out he was actually 53 he just gave out a little laugh saying ahaha no I'm 38. And I still believed him. But now that I know and he knows I know he tells me he told me that because he didn't know me and that he didn't have to tell me nothing. What do y'all think? He told me his real name but not his age. But why?

it is best not to start out lying to someone you are intrested in starting a relationship with.
I get the part about lying about his age.
Not too many women your age are or would be interested in someone that old.
In some cases if they are billionaires that seems to change things, not saying that you would.
But yes, it is not hard these days to find out just about everything you want to know about anyone.

that is too large of an age difference.

Lying by a couple of years is dishonest and kinda dirty. Lying by 14 years is straight up catfishing.

I don’t know why people lie about things that will inevitably come to light and make them look bad. I wouldn’t waste your time with him anymore though.
