Does my Ex's friend have a thing for me?

I was with my ex for 9 years, and he had a friend he knew from online gaming. We both used to talk to him weekly, occasionally visit (doesn't live local), and I used to chat with him by myself and we developed our own frienship.

When I got engaged to my ex and started planning our wedding he started to distance himself from us both and then stopped responding to both of our calls and texts.

My split from my ex was messy and nasty. A few months later I text him just to ask how he is doing and hoped he was ok, but he hasn't responded.

My friends think it's because he has a thing for me so cut us both off once we got engaged. But I'm concerned he knew what my ex was doing (cheating). I hope not as he's a really decent guy and I thought our friendship was real. Men's opinions please x

Sounds like he may have indeed had a thing at one point. The fact that he cut you off completely once you were engaged is a sign that maybe he had feelings and it was too much for him to handle. Kind of immature if you ask me. However, it does seem like maybe he was hoping that you were not going to get to that point and once you did, he was disappointed.

Now that the engagement is off and he isn't responding might mean a few things. It could mean he doesn't want to jump into something with you since that would sort of be like betraying his friend. He may also look at it as if he contacts you, his friend may think there was something going on and that is part of the reason you split.

Hard to say. I do think you are correct that if he knew of his friends cheating on you, that may also be a reason for his disappointment. Maybe wait a week and then reach out explaining that you miss your friendship and hope everything is going well and you'd like to chat again soon. See if that gets a response.
