Why was my friends with benefits partner unable to recognise my childhood pic?

I am friends with benefits with someone for over 1 year and our interactions have always been online. Recently, i sent him my play school class group photo and he was unable to recognise me. I am very hurt. Even a person with blurry vision would understand its me. He also forgot my birthday this year. But yes, he remembers almost every other important dates or little things. But somehow I can't just not feel very bad about it.

I don’t think you’re being very honest with yourself with you say you want friends with benefits, because those things feelings of being deeply hurt should be reserved for someone you’re actually dating. If you enjoy the current arrangement then set some boundaries. If you want more than be real with yourself about that.

You’re already hurting yourself by staying in that situation and internalizing his talking points to justify him using you. You’re 100% right, we can’t change how we feel but we can set a standard for ourselves and refuse to lower it for men who do the bare minimum. Doesn’t matter how much you like him, you should like and respect yourself enough to be honest about what you want, and you don’t just want sex. His feelings to you are platonic, which is extremely unfair when you know deep down you want more. Stop fooling yourself.

I doubt it’s an empty thing and more of a he won’t commit thing. I’m not trying to make you feel any sort of way, I just hope being in a “timed” situation with this guy you seem to like enough to hurt over, that it won’t do anything to your self esteem.
