Guy rejected my offer to help him but is now very playful?

I offered help to a guy, he rejected it and i took it as a sign that he didn't like me. But now his actions are totally different. We work together so i can see him becoming more caring, asking if i have eaten, went home safely. Although i would have been happy before, but the fact that he rejected my help still stings. Also, he's becoming more playful now after I said I like to joke around. What do you think is going on?

Some people just don't like being helped unnecessarily. I turn down help at times because I like doing things myself. Some people have been doing everything themselves from so long that they feel it may be a burden on someone else if they ask for help. Don't worry.

You probably caught him off guard when you asked him before. Sometimes we consider people a certain way. Then they do something that totally changes our perception of them.
