Like seriously it pisses me off! I’m actually winning an argument and I’ll admit I can get pretty passionate when I’m confident in my stance. But as soon as the guy picks up on that he goes with the why are you so emotional about this? And it just derails the argument.

Firstly, if it's an argument with a significant other then it's not about "winning" anything. It's both of you against the problem. Winning suggests someone is better than someone else which never ends well in a relationship.
Speaking passionately about a subject is awesome- having an argument where it involves you putting someone down for having a different opinion isn't, although it doesn't sound like that kind of argument. Were you discussing something you're knowledgeable about?
If you're anything like me, you can come over as overbearing during a heated discussion- I have to consciously rein myself in, and formulate my argument before speaking, then listening to what they say, then taking a moment to formulate either a rebuttal or agreement. Giving someone that time and space can de-escalate an argument really well :)
Next time you get this, do what I do- take a breath, and respond with "That's because this subject means a lot to me". Maybe a little explanation as to why it's so important to can go a long way in an argument. After all, arguments are differences in opinions and emotions, and understanding the other side of the coin is always beneficial- even if they're being stupid 🤣🤣
What makes you think you were winning? Maybe he thought he was winning. In my experience, women ALWAYS think they were winning or had won the argument when nothing could be further from the truth.

To a woman, an argument is a battleground for pushing an agenda, and reputation maintenance always comprises part of that agenda, there’s nothing more and nothing less to the nature of their argumentation. This is why typically, they cannot be held as accountable and thus even remotely equal to men due to an absence of credibility, they demonstrate repeatedly that their mental faculty is averse to claiming responsibility via honest, transparent discourse. Even when they are in positions of power which require by nature of the job description that they be held completely and utterly accountable, they still demonstrate reluctance to give up plausible deniability and be forced into a position, analyse any female bosses in the workplace you’ve had to draw a personal inference if you need so.
Cause we are lol. Jk, sort of. Higher estrogen levels intensifies an emotional reaction more, which makes it seem like we care about things way more than they do. It doesn’t mean the feelings aren’t real and justified, it’s just that they may seem more exaggerated.
for guys, using it is the same thing as calling out a typo during an online argument. It means that you’re done even trying and just want to make the person as mad as you can. You should see it and treat it as a victory. “If you resort to that, you’re admitting defeat.”
Because manchildren can't handle losing an argument and think insulting a woman's emotions is an easy way out.
Actual, mature, grown up men have the capacity to recognize if they're in the wrong don't feel a need to do this. And they recognize it is HUMAN to have emotions.

I can only think of one time where I said a woman was being too emotional in an argument, and it was because she was literally losing her mind actually trying to justify her feelings about a situation that were actually very wrong. She had also accused me of bringing something up in the discussion that she did, not me. This is not uncommon for women to do, especially if they are "venting" and need to use you as a target or punching bag for their anger or emotional build-up.
Being passionate about your idea or your feelings in an argument or debate doesn't make you or me a winner. And especially not because we think we're one-upping someone.

From the male side, i’ve never used that line on someone who was “winning” an argument. First of all, there is NO winning an argument in a relationship. If you prefer winning over compromising, then you prefer to be single. Secondly, sometimes people ARE overly emotionally invested in either their viewpoint or the outcome of the confrontation. Too many people conflate being passionate with being right.
I HIGHLY recommend a book called “Being Wrong: Adventures in the Margin of Error” by Kathryn Schultz. If it doesn’t change your life, it’ll change your mind. If it does neither, you’re an NPC.
I don't know how your 'argument' went, but whenever I point out someone is being emotional is because they are all in their fee fees as well hurling insults my way when all I did was put a statement forth or are refuting a statement made by the other person. I'm not saying you did those things, but in case you did do it, then he had the right to call you out on becoming emotional. Often people who ARE passionate about a subject tend to become emotional to a degree when they are met with counter arguments. Some more than others. But staying level headed always ensures one remains rational. Whereas the other starts to get fed up and eventually throws insults. That's when you know you have won the argument for sure.

You also don't seem to understand that you're not in a court of law, or a debate lectern. Hence there are no rules on what tricks or fallacies can and cannot be used.
It seems you are the emotional type, and an appeal to emotion fallacy will derail you. To ofset this you need to work on your demeanour and delivery. Do not let your emotions get the better of you, and keep at your main points. You can always go and cry later.
You need to work on your poker face or resting bitch face. Whichever you have. Also, cut off the argument when you're unable to control your emotions. It can be resumed later in most cases.
Men and Women are different and reason differently. A lot of times in an argument there is no "right" or "wrong" way. Just two different point of view on how to deal with a situation. So many times it's about choosing a direction together on how to deal with a situation.
I consider it like trying to discuss on which side of the toast you're going to smear the jelly. There is no good or wrong side. Just two sides.
Usually you can only have a discussion about "good" or "wrong" when you have an absolute point of truth. Like the answer to equations like 3+4=7. Or written laws.
As soon as you don't have that, it becomes points of views.
So getting pissed on stuff that doesn't have an absolute point of truth (like a book of law or maths) well... it's just being emotional.
This happens with me to. It means they are loosing lol. I will be speaking normal and the dude will start yelling and screaming at me saying I'm too emotional. Sometime I can't help but laugh🤣.. eh just let it be. Why bother..

2 things for me come to mind.
1. You potentially are not winning the argument, you are getting over emotionally invested and are becoming close minded due to this and not hearing the other side.
2. Due to becoming emotional or angry you turn the other person off from wanting to change their mind or agree with you. I used to do this too, a good skill to avoid this is slow down and speak quietly. This way it doesn't feel like a personal attack.
It could also just be he doesn't want to admit he's wrong lol.

Why do you feel you have to win an argument?
Why not just communicate and be direct over arguing to get your opinion across?
He is just as guilty for adding to the miscommunication instead of simply telling you that he feels you are not able to communicate respectfully and feels he can not communicate with you when you are expressing yourself subjectively.
When you both should be having a mature objective and open minded conversation.
Listen to what he is saying instead of what you are hearing.

You both need to learn to respect each other and try to have a calmer more empathetic conversation that involves feelings without personal attacks and defenses.
All's fair in love, war and arguments. It's perfectly acceptable to do anything, including insulting your opponent, in order to win an argument. Things like "you're too emotional" are usually last ditch efforts because the guy has run out of legit things to say.

Probably because he just wanted to have a friendly conversation, and not argue about everything all the time, could you imagine the only conversation or discussion you ever have with someone would inevitably end up with an argument and you're fussing over who wins and who loses, he probably told you you're too emotional because he didn't really care about winning, and just wanted some genuine input.

I've asked why a particular event caused them to feel as distressed as they were, if it didn't make sense to me, but I've never assumed it was because of some problem with over-expressing emotion. Everything comes from some place and I like knowing why. Helps things move forward
I can answer this in one of two ways.
1. Acting like a butthurt little bitch doesn't count as winning an argument.

People do that in general in arguments its actually a trick that they use to confuse the person making the argument. Claiming someone Is to emotional doesn't automatically classify their argument as invalid but people like to bring this up while they're taking an L.

I can say, from experience it is an easy way out to avoid accountability and for the man to save face from losing an argument. Some men are so hard wired to have the last word so they will deploy any arsenal to make themselves feel less even though they maybe in the wrong and this is also coming from generations of patriarchy at play, that if they lose even an argument to a woman then they are somehow less of a man.

I decide to suppose you really have a winning argument. The most familiar case for me would be that you press it too hard in a way that makes the man feel you call him stupid. Try to keep calm and sound like you really respect his view although you found a better one.
