Why is he orbiting?

I was seeing this guy for a month, things were going well for a while until I ended things with him, only to change my mind the next day. We were fine for the week, we went out to the club and I slept over that night. I asked to see him two days later and he didn’t respond so I deleted the message.

He responded asking what I deleted, so I explained to him that I wanted to see him but I felt vulnerable so I deleted the message. He went on to say that I shouldn’t feel bad if he can’t see me, but he still wants to hang out sometimes etc. but neither of us are looking for a relationship, so we shouldn’t be seeing each other religiously.

After that convo he stopped liking my stories, but continues to watch them and kept me in his close friends. If I message him he responds casually, but he doesn’t message me first anymore and hasn’t tried to see me over the last week.

Why is he still watching my stories and keeping me in his close friends if he’s seemingly uninterested?
