So, what does "curvy" mean to you?
Define "curvy" for me
So, what does "curvy" mean to you?
Hourglass figure is curvy. If people are referring to a curvy girl as someone with a little extra weight, it depends on how it's distributed. 36-24-36 is curvy (hour glass) however 36-32-36 is not. You could just say that you have an hourglass figure as you described yourself in your post.
When I was a teen people used to say that I looked like a 'Tab' bottle They don't sell that soda anymore LMAO! But I was bigger on the bottom and hips than up top and I always had a 4-5 inch gap in my waist when I wore pants. You can google Tab soda and pull up the image if it helps give you an idea. Hourglass is big on top, big in the hips and tiny in the waist.
You can also say that 'healthy' if you are talking to someone in an urban area is a way to distinguish extra weight from curvy (hourglass). Healthy never means that they have healthy eating habits it just means they are a little bigger. I wish we didn't have these descriptions of people, it's pretty demeaning don't cha think? I swear every woman and girl would be so much better if people weren't always trying to put us in a box. We would all have good self images of ourselves and treat each other better.
I agree, we should be more accepting. There's no such thing as the "perfect" body. I have two sisters, and none of us are built the same way at all; if we don't have the same figure with genetics on our side, how are all women supposed to fit one mold? It's impossible.
Curvy means a girl who is of perfect proportion in my eyes.
Like one of my friends - She's absolutely perfect but she thinks she's fat? She gets VERY angry when I say she's not. But really, I'm jealous of her because her bust (Dcup) is in proportion with her bum - whereas my bum is pretty big (in my opinion) and I'm a 34B! So I think I look like a tube.
I agree - when sizes differ it does nothing for a girls confidence.
My same friend refuses to buy anything above a UK size 12! She says it's just something she'll never do.
It used to bother me when I couldn't fit an 8 and had to go for a 10 but now I happily go out and say "Hey, I am what I am!"
So instead of suffering in silence with being size 8/10 - I'm happily (and comfortably) a size 10/12 :)
A tube? lol I prefer the term pear-shaped.
And there's nothing wrong with that :]
Oh I'm sorry, "tube" is kind of a derogatory term where I live - I keep forgetting not to use it cos nobody understands. =P
Pear-shaped is the correct term for what I was describing, yes!
curvy, to me means does imply having extra weight and not being so shapely (I don't know, lol I'm weird- just me.) I prefer to use the term thick meaning to imply:
medium to large breasts
smallish waist
large, round hips
large (but not huge) thighs
but generally toned.I always use this term to describe someone who has curves in all the right places but isn't hugely overweight.
it's strange honestly, I'm 40DD (which I think some of that is backfat lollll), 28, 48 and I weigh 190 but most of the weight is in my hips, thighs, and behind- I don't have a huge stomach or anything. it's confusing. I do like the term thick better though. lol ;) thick definitely means in the right places lol
To me, you just described "thick".
. . .to each his own, right? lol
That's why I asked :]
Everyone basically said the same thing except for you, I'm kind of surprised by that.
Curvy is a woman that is a little big on the heavy side but proportionate. Hourglass is nice and probably very proportionate. You could post a pic on your profile if you want.
The human brain has a knack at finding things that doesn't fit right. You look at someone and feel that something just doesn't fit but not know why. Beauty in hollywood is defined as being attractive and symetrical. The face and body should be near identical as the other half. Genetics and nature doesn't dictate that though since there are some things we can't control. A woman having one bigger breast than the other would not pass the symetrical test but still be highly attractive to a guy or girl.
Curvy to me, I'd say between 5'7 and 5'10 and 160 - 200 lbs. :) Some might define it as lack of fat rolls.
Is that your definition, or your preference? lol
I don't see how a girl's height would affect whether or not she's curvy.
Curvy to me is all about the lower body: smallish waist with wide hips and solid legs. Being busty isn't necessarily part of it.
Look at the models of the 50's and 60's verses today's famous models to get a good idea of curvy. By today's standards Marilyn Monroe, Jayne Manfield and Bettie Page would almost be plus size models. Not that today's skinny models aren't attractive but they're a tiny percentage of women and in some people's eyes have become the standard. It's ridiculous.
I agree that it's ridiculous, but probably because I'm built more like Marilyn Monroe haha
I'm single -- too bad you're 2000 miles away ;)
I read that by 1990s measurements, Monroe would be a size 12. I've known cute, fit girls that size who thought they were "chubby" or "a little big" because they compare themselves to today's models and actresses who are often size 6 or smaller.
Sorry for the rant, but this subject ticks me off
'90s measurements aren't even the same as today's. There used to be a standard measurement, but now it completely depends on the brand. Sometimes I'm a size 6, sometimes an 8, sometimes a 10.
I think that's another thing that messes with a girl's self-esteem. I like being a size 8--that's what I am in most places. But when I go to another store and I'm a bigger size, it's like I suddenly gained 30 lbs. I don't take it to heart, but a girl who's insecure about her body might.
Absolutely.
Guys don't have to deal with much of that crap. Our clothes are mostly based on a simple measurement of waist, inseam, neck diameter, etc. It's more difficult to jerk us around.
My sister also told me that often a size 10 at a low-budget store will be a size 8 at a more upscale place.
Headgames.

I would say that curvy means that you aren't a twig. It means you are naturally feminine and have a pear or hourglass shape, which attracts men. Someone who is curvy usually has a little extra in the thigh, butt, and chest area than girls who aren't curvy.
depends on the context I guess. like if you were talking about your pretty friend who maybe carried a bit of extra weight you might say "she's gorgeous and curvy" or it could be a girl who has a big bust and big hips and thighs, they are curvy. Some really skinny girls might have hips and boobs and someone would consider them curvy. it all depends on the person I guess. I use it for lots of different girls.
I have the same problem, when I am discussing girls with the guys, and I say I like curvey girls, they all are like, oh you're a chubby chaser? No, a curvey girl is one with a nice figure, probably not as thin as most of those "stick girls" but way sexier
There d*ckheads!!! ur right.
I consider myself curvy, my measurments are 36-27-38. I think of curvy as the classic women of the 50's such as Sophia Loren, Elizabeth Taylor and of course Marylin Monroe. Curvy is usually associated with an hourglass figure, meaning an ideal 7 inches between hips and waist, but also having a decent sized bust. If you have the 7 inches between the hips and waist with no bust you are considered pear shape.
Exactly. I have an hourglass shape but people think I'm a pear when I have a large bust! people need to learn these things.
not overweight definitely,
its like.you're not flat, and you have a butt
but you have little tummy.that what an hourglass is
and curvy can mean really anything, as long as you not stick-figured and not bony.
curvy to me sounds like someone who is overweight.
but at the same time I've been called curvy and I'm underweight (I have a tiny waist and big hips so that's also curvy)
most of the time I hear curvy though its when people are a little overweight.
Nice wide hips and possibly a nice sized ass too. I am considered curvy because if I didn't have such big hips I would be a size 6 but I am a size 8 because of my hips and butt.
I have the same issue, it's so hard finding jeans that fit.
I hate how the jeans that would actually fit me aren't worth buying. Half the time, the material isn't that good, and they're expensive on top of that. I don't want to spend $40 on a pair of jeans that aren't going to last.
I like bootcut jeans to balance out my hips. Plus, I'm 5'3" and bootcut jeans come in shorter lengths :]
Are you girls wearing the skinny jeans? I hate em hate em hate em! My ass is too big for skinny jeans. It's pretty obscene. Hips are like 44 waist is like 26 boobage is like 38. I don't even think they make skinny jeans in my size and I refuse to go to the big girl store Ashley Stewart (I think) they practically kicked me out and slandered skinny girls doing it. Literally they laughed at me. But I did find some South Pole Jeans that fit once. I should have bought more. Now thery're gone.
I've never tried skinny jeans. They're meant to make your hips look wider, and that's about the last thing I need. Although, it wouldn't look as bad with a loose top that hits below the hip. But I can't imagine getting them over my thighs :P
I had a pair of South Pole jeans in high school that I loved, but they said "South Pole" all over them. It made me feel like a walking billboard--I hate that.
Curvy is Hourglass figure or pear shape. Big butt, waist to hip ratio, and/or small waist.
Marilyn monroe, sophia loren, beyonce, Jlo, etc.
thats curvy. hell, I'm curvy! and I love it.
Hahah :) I don't get why people think curvy is fat either.
:)
Curvy is beautiful believe me I wouln't have it no other way!
Example: non-curvy=Lindsey Loghan curvy=Beyonce
As simple as that, not fat but you have boobs and a butt not a straight line shape.
Curvy to me generally thick everywhere but the waist, which is good. Hourglass figure fits it.
dont listen to that stuff what people say! curvy means "sexy" written all over it
and between you and me I don't mind a girl witha few extra pounds its a sin too look skinny all the time! and a crime to say someones too fat or skinny trust me ^_-
Yeah, fat women have co-opted that term. Don't use it, it has come to mean fat.
well, her waist is proportionally much smaller than her hips and bust, that would define curvy for me
Curvy is an hourglass figure on a girl who isn't overweight.
Hourglass shaped I guess. It doesn't count if all the 'curves' are convex. lol
Pic in my profile shows body types.
Something that has curves
It's a polite way of saying fat.
