Is it pathetic to still live with my parents at 22, and accept occasional rides from them cause I can’t drive?

You don't need to call yourself pathetic. But it'll be much better for your mental health, psychological well-being, if you can learn these things, get life skills, and move on with your life. The sooner, the better.

I know life is hella expensive these days (it always felt that way, but it's even worse today), and it will be a struggle. But struggle builds character. You need to find the balance between life knocking you on your ass, and you completely falling apart emotionally, vs. learning how to tackle life's practical problems. It's part of growing up.

When I moved out, it was of my own free will. My stepfather, for the first time, seemed to respect me after that. His whole attitude and demeanour around me flipped after that. Now, when I came home to visit sometimes, he was interested in my life, and we stayed up into the evening chatting. That never happened before.

I went to the Goodwill, Salavation Army type places, to buy home goods. All second hand, affordable. That's how I started out in the world. People today expect too much. Everyone has to start somewhere. There's a stat about millennials (this was several years ago, I read this) expecting their first home to be roughly like their parents' home, the one they grew up in and just left. No, your parents worked their entire lives to get that home! And, they expect it to be modern and updated. Some millennials are middle-aged now, almost, so ignore the age thing there, but the point is expectations. Struggle is real. And everyone must go through that learning curve.

My dad taught me how to drive. My parents were long divorced, and I have zero memories of living with him. But he came over, and made me learn to drive his stick shift, because he said it's that important. And he was right. Being able to drive, whether you have a car or not, is freedom, Beka. It can get you out of a jam, if you ever get stranded somewhere, and the other person cannot drive (say, they've been drinking, or got hurt.) I highly, highly, recommend learning this. I didn't buy a car for many years, but I could drive them. And there's nothing like that freedom of being on an open road, and listening to whatever you want in a nice personal bubble, seeing the world.

No.. lots of people I know even 23-26 still live at home with parents or family. My friend is 25 and has 2 children but she doesn’t drive either, she’s also going through divorce so she is living with her parents. I know people who didn’t move out till they were 26-27 tbh and their doing fine still.

There’s no rules on when to do things in your life. Everyone has a time. Not everyone moves at the same pace.

Yeah. It is.. if you are living with them, paying rent and saving to get a house or stuff then that’s smart. You have a plan to move out. If you are just lazy and staying with them because it’s free and easy. That’s pathetic. And you can’t drive at 22? It would be a red flag for me because I need a girl that can do things independently.

I do, things independently I commute to the gym and any meetings with friends alone 98% of the time

Oh no I travel myself however sometimes if I need to get groceries and they’re heading there anyway, or if I am going out to a party they’ll drop me since Uber is expensive and I would have to get one home anyway. It’s only occasionally for the most part I get around alone via Uber, train, or walking!

I do get around myself but sometimes if I’m going to a bar they will drop me off (only sometimes not every time) and if I’m getting groceries I will just go when they go because it’s easier and I don’t wanna buy stuff we already have at home. But in general I get the train or Uber or bus places, and if it’s local I walk
