What does it mean when a guy you just met asks you out on a dinner and tells you, let’s not rush to call it a “date”, let’s start with the friendship?

I was at the bar with friends, when my friend left for a moment, two guys approached both of them asked me number. I only liked one of them. The one who I liked was Spanish and he was saying he was sure I was Spanish too and he couldn’t believe I wasn’t. We talked for about 15 minutes. He told me he thinks I am very pretty and smart and if it would be okay if we went out on a dinner sometime, he said, let’s not rush to call it a dinner, we can start with a friendship. I wonder why’d he say that?

He’s 26.

To be honest, I like the way he stated it better cause makes me feel less stressed.

Dates make me feel nervous.

But I am still confused as of why would he want to have a dinner and be friends with a girl he just met 30 minutes ago. Like did you get my number just to friendzone me? Lol
