Guys, What does he mean when he says he just doesn't feel anything sometimes?

So my boyfriend of 4 months told me about a month ago that he doesn't feel anything sometimes, including loving me, he said he knows he loves me and he wants to be with me but he doesn't feel it all the time. That sometimes he wants to spend forever with me and sometimes he just wants to be alone and not talk to anyone or be around anyone. I need advice on how to understand this.
