Everyone is different but most likely sign is flirting. Everyone does that differently too. At least that is somewhat easy to pick up. Flirting really isn't subtle. The problem with determining that on social media is you can take written words a number of ways since the emotion is taken out of them. It is easy to look at what someone writes and see what you want to see. My best advice is to meet up in person where you can measure his body language and responses to you.
