I saw a shift in our relationship. He promised to call me everyday on my vacation, but didn't do that.

I messaged him 3 times. He seemed avoiding and distant. The 3 times I asked him "Is there anything you want to tell me, do you want me to stop messaging you and leave you alone? Be honest!". The first time he said "I have work to do"... the second time "do you want me to stay on the phone the entire day in order to message you immediately?" And the third time he said "you are thinking this and that, stop talking about these things?" I feel like there is something wrong with us. Why can't he be upfront and tell me?

Sounds like you don’t trust him and it’s causing you to be overbearing. Which is in turn causes him to pull away and you to be even more overbearing. It’s a vicious cycle. And if you don’t trust him, why are you with him.
