Is my friend a pedo for this?

He was talking to this 16 year old via call on snapchat. He says that he told her that he is not looking for anyone and that there is nothing between them, and they’re talking as friends. I know he’s not lying cus he showed me the message saying that nothing was going on. Is he still a pedo for just talking to her without any sexual means?

Not really. A pedophile is someone who engages in sexual activity with a child or makes a sexual proposition or advances. There's no crime in just talking to a 16-year-old. Some people may find it weird. I honestly don't understand what an adult would have in common with a 16-year-old. Even if he did ask her for sex, unless he actually had sex with her, no crime would be committed, and even then, the consent laws are different from state to state. In the area I live in, 15 and 16 year old girls are always getting impregnated by older guys, and some of them are on the National Sex offender registry, but where I live, unless the girls are raped, it's not a crime... according to law enforcement here.

When I was 16, my first girlfriend was 14 or 15. When I was 18, a different girlfriend was 16.

So 16 and 19, a three year age difference, isn't really a big deal. Besides that, they're just talking and it's not sexual in nature.

Of course not!! Back in the late `90's, I was good friends with a 12 year old girl in Mich. that I met online and we, mostly, talked about The Beatles or the sorts of stories we were both into writing. After a few months, we just stopped talking.

16 is legal in the UK, so in this case he’s not. If he’s interested in younger girls that’s an entirely different matter
