He seems to get more pulled in towards me whenever I pull away and try distancing myself from him. How is that so, and why is he ok with it? He also seems to enjoy the fact that i call him out on his attitude, and yet he loves it. How is that so?

All I am going to say is, stop playing games with each other, the only way to have a healthy relationship with someone is to have open and honest conversation with your partner or friend.
second guessing someone's intentions is not the answer, who know's what that person is thinking, or intentions towards you. The way to find out what someone is really thinking, is to speak to them, regardless how uncomfortable the conversation.
You can find out a lot about someone, when they talk to you, and not when you don't talk to them.
I have realised with most people, they are too scared to come talk or approach you about what you are thinking and doing.
My best guess, with guy is, that he really likes you, but too scared too seem desperate and approach or talk you about it.
I also think most of the time, people play games not with intentions of play games, but to second guess you, or they are confused with your actions. People play games cause they are confused.
When someone senses that they may be losing your attention or connection, they might feel a fear of loss. This fear can trigger a desire to regain your interest and bring them closer to you. People often value things more when they feel they are at risk of losing them.
: Your attention, even if negative (such as calling out their attitude), can still serve as a form of validation. Some people may prefer negative attention over no attention at all. It fulfills their need for acknowledgment and can make them feel important.
answers from chatgpt.
Insecurity and Self-Worth: Individuals with lower self-esteem might interpret distance as rejection, leading them to seek validation to boost their self-worth. Your calling out their attitude might be perceived as a form of attention that confirms their significance, even if it's not entirely positive
What you girls have to understand, there is a lot of men out there, who are too scared to ask you out on a date, without knowing you like them first, most guys like to test the waters to see if you like them, cause they don't want to be rejected.
oh wow. thank you so much for such an honest and comprehensive reply. I really appreciate it. Well we've had our ups and downs and a few months ago we had a huge fallout (he was largely at the wrong here), but he tried to make it up to me so badly. However, I am still very hurt and I cried a lot to him about it when it first happened because I was afriad of losing him, but now it seems as though he knows he really hurt me and is trying to fix things.
That could be true, also a lot of people, have too much pride too say sorry. They would rather do it, in another way, without saying it.
I suggest you use Chatgpt, I have to been using for it a lot of things in my life, its a really good and useful tool. Its really helped me, it also make you realise what you are doing wrong in your own life.
He doesn't want to lose you.
