Girls, do you have a handy husband or DIY guy?
Sure, I have take care of my home since the 90's and built half of it besides running the plumbing and electricals. I just didn't have time with school and work to do everything.
If i ran into a problem I didn't know how to fix, I would research it by going to the library and the hardware store and talk to experienced people who had the knowledge I needed.
One of the most important skills men develop is learning to adapt to any given situation, know your boundaries and learn when is best to bring in a professional.
Very much so. I am currently working on a major addition to our house per the wife's request. Also making some new tables and chairs. She wants a fire place so part of the addition includes building a fire place complete with the slab of marble she purchased for the mantle. I have place all the stones in add the mantle and stones on top until the full fireplace and chimney is in place I have the first bit started since I need it to go up at the same time as the rest of the addition. She also wants a second floor added so we can be upstairs for a bit more privacy and the little ones will be downstairs.
Yeah she has big plans by which she means "I have a really cool idea in my head I am going to draw and I want you to make it" and she swatted me lol
Wife response: that is definitely not what I am saying I just show you the picture until you want to do it.
Wife response: I already do he built the entire house up to this point. One of the first things I had him make was a arched series of bars so I could plant vine plants to grow over it for shade. He even managed to make it connect to our front door and our garage door. Right now it doesn't have any flowers because it is cold. Last summer it was covered in red, purple, orange and white flowers. People driving by kept stopping to take pictures.
She comes up with the design I do my best to make it a reality. She is an artist so her drawings are quite detailed which helps though I do have to alter them sometimes just due to the physics of the world and how it would affect things. This is our main house we have a few others that I work on when we are at those houses but those we purchased and i just restored them making additions on those is a bit harder as I have to keep the same style as the house for historical reasons.
Yeah me too. I can barely draw a stick figure. She can not only draw but paint and sculpt. She also makes her own handmade tote bags with one of a kind paintings on them. So every bag is unique. She showed me the process once I got lost after 5 minutes
I don't know how to post pictures 🤣 otherwise I would post one of her paintings
I am usually not handy nor do I have anyone handy around me, but once I repaired my great grandpa’s antique chair, because they were going to throw it away.
I wanted it to stay in the family, because my great grandpa loved it, I repaired it when I was 16-17 and they still use it pretty well 10 years later.
Fortunately, one of my neighbours is a very helpful soul :D
I assume I could harm myself with those :D
I'm better with electronics...

Jack of all trades. Most recently… my pasta sauce got huge accolades.
I suppose it depends on your definition of handy. I'm more of a technician, that is to say I can fix a lot if it's an electronic device. But I do what I can do when it comes to home maintenance, from fixing a leaky sink to replacing the vanity or changing a light bulb to installing a ceiling fan. I'm certainly no pro but I was gifted with some good spacial reasoning and can get the job done if I put my mind to it. Even some basic vehicle repair.
YouTube is always a good resource for something I don't know or understand. Or I learned from watching others, such as the many jobsites I work at I see tile being installed (properly). When I needed to replace tile in the shower I felt confident enough to do it on my own.
So I guess my simple answer is; I'm not a trained handy-man, but I guess I have a natural tendency to doing what needs to be done. I don't always know what or how something needs to be done, but I usually can figure it. But if it's something I don't feel comfortable touching, I call a pro. There's no shame in it, guys call me all the time for technical repair issues.
Yes I am very handy around the house. I had my house built in 1994. In 2004 I rewired it because I didn't like how the circuits were set up. I replaced all the copper plumbing pipe in my house with pex pipe because I was tired of fixing leaking pipes due to my well water. I put a new roof on my house this past summer. I built my pool deck all out of pvc decking 2 years ago. I built pvc railings on the front and back of my house. I framed and finished my basement. I do minor repairs on all our vehicles. I very rarely have to call a professional for home repairs
A home is a money sucking pit if you have to call professional people all the time. That's why I learned to do things myself
I think everyone should know the basics of all home repairs like changing a faucet , fixing leaks, replacing a switch or outlet, or patching holes in sheetrock
I wouldn't say I'm incredibly handy, but I've had a little experience in the past doing carpentry, masonry, and basic plumbing. I'm also the type that wants to do everything himself and never pay for services.
When I move out, I plan on taking no furniture. Only necessities and a sleeping bag and making all my all my furniture myself.
Eventually I also want to build my own custom tiny house and renovate my own campervan. So I guess while I'm not currently handy, I do have the desire to be. I'll learn all my shit from YouTube and online guides
I don't mess with gas lines or anything above 120v, but everything else I'm pretty handy. My mom has done carpentry for 30+ years. She built most of the furniture in my house and all of my built-ins. I've worked with her for 20+ years so as long as it's not welding I can probably fix it. Small motors and circuit boards I used to deal with but I've got severe carpal tunnel and numbness in my shooting hand so most of that is out unless I'm fixing something on the log splitter. Do a lot of garden work too, and the cooking of course. Think I'm pretty handy. Don't know shite about cars though.
My mom's got the hookup on exotic lumber and luxury plywood since there's a guy at a warehouse that's been flirting with her for 20 years. I got nearly 40 linear feet of bookcases put in made out of 1.5" cherry A1 plywood with tigerwood trim on a solid ironwood riser for less than it would have cost to buy crappy walmart particle board stuff. Next time she comes out for a while we're replacing the stair risers with ironwood burl. Most of the stuff in the house non-wood people just look at and are like "that's pretty" but every so often a contractor will come by for roof/windows/something I do not do and is just like "whoa do you know what THIS is?" Haha... yeah... yeah I do.
I was offered 15k for a coffee table she made. I said no. She said if I ever do dumb shite like that again she'll disown me.
It was the last piece she started before the Towers came down. Then I enlisted and deployed before she finished it, so it went into storage until I came home and got a permanent place and at least some indication that I'd have some time to enjoy it between deployments. After 7 I bought a house, thought I'd have 9 months dwell time so I went to see her, she threw another layer of poly on it, we crated it up real nice and got ready to freight it out to my place. Then I got a call saying I was going back. I said they'd bumped their head because I had 9-month that just started. They said I got promoted so it resets and I leave next week. She was not happy.
16 months later I REALLY shipped it to me and sent her pictures of it finally in my living room in the same place it sits today. That thing isn't leaving this house if I have anything to do with it.
I would make a joke about yes, mostly in the bedroom. The truth is that I can do plumbing and electrical work. I have built a shed, two decks and a front porch. I replaced all my trim with PVC and installed a sump pump system in my basement I wired the whole house for coaxial cable and when we first moved into this new house i had screened loam delivered and rented a bobcat and planted my own lawn.
Being in construction my whole life. Yea I’m very handy, Cars, houses. Buildings. Cement. Roads,……. If it’s broken il find a way to fix it or build it.
I could do anything from build a house up from scratch,
Fix something that broke down,
Or slap up a brick wall 20 feet tall,
it’s gotten me very far professionally. And opened all kinds of doors having those skills. And knowledge.
plus’s the ladies love it too. What they are attracted to is the competence. And ability.
handy enough, yes...
to fix, to replace, to figure out some things... to make and build a few other things
some of my relatives and family are quite handy too, and from those times in which things were made to last but also to be repaired and maintained
and so far, so good... have not burned down the house or anything
(except for that time, well twice... the microwave caught fire, but that's a different story)
lmao...
Very... I have always been able to do just about anything involving a house. Was a mechanic for a while in my teens so good with cars too and just about anything else. I only hire people for major projects that I don't have time for. Everything else I do myself.
I can do some minor repairs and plumbing and electrical and a bit of drywall. Definitely good at simple installations like garage racks for storage and shelving. Probably not too handy with major renovations like a kitchen or a bathroom remodel.
pretty good at identifying work that needs to be done
very handy when it comes to the outdoor world/our property. I can also work on gas powered tools, such as chainsaws and snowblowers, etc.
I can do all my bike repairs.
More handy than a bot🤣
Yes I am. I can do most things, including structural wood projects, simple wood furniture (ex: book bases) and tables, electrical work and simple plumbing. I don't do plumbing with natural gas though... many years ago, I had to use a reduction fitting on the gas line for our new gas clothes dryer and almost blew the house up with the gas leak. I leave natural gas work to the experts.
“Jack of all trades, master of none.”
Carpentry, some roofing, electrical, plumbing, welding, landscaping, ditch digging (not afraid to dig a hole), heavy equipment operation, cat raising for rodent control, soon to raise a rooster for keeping predatory birds away if him and my cat get along, then l will be raising some ducks; hell, l even do housework. Yep, l am also self-domesticated.

“…But still better than a master of one.”
For some things, yes, for others, no. If there's a tech component to it, I can probably do it, and I'm comfortable with electrical work as long as it's not a major project (if it's large enough that you should be pulling a permit, I'll shunt it to an electrician) but I don't do much when it comes to structural work or plumbing
Thank you. I appreciate the view in my favor ☺️
Yes, ma'am, although I'm generally more useful in terms of doing chores, cleaning and laundry, etc than as a nuts-and-bolts type of guy. But I can perform many basic automotive related tasks, such as changing the oil, etc, and I'm a very capable yardwork /landscaping technician as well.
Not just my house, but also my parents' house. I feel like I'm fixing or upgrading something over there more than my own house.
I can do carpentry, electrical, some basic plumbing, definitely low-voltage wiring (speakers, cameras, networking, etc.), and of course things like painting, plus car maintenance. So I'm always doing something like that for myself, my parents, my girlfriend, or even for friends (who are happy to pay me).
I know I'm extremely fortunate in having a husband who can turn his hands to most jobs that need sorting or doing. (DIY).
He was obviously well taught by his father, who seems to be an expert in all manner of things that need doing.
not at all, far from handy, i tried to switch hinges and add hinges... every possible wrong combination seemed what i needed to do... many attempts until i succeeded. but i managed to build beds. 2 simple wood beds. not "assemble bed from shop" but order the length of wood strips and boards, drill and attach wood with screws.
I invented the ''house'' in some previous life.
But I'm not proud of it, as real estate sharks - and such - meanwhile perverted my invention.
As a revenge, I won't let anyone fix or make something in (or around) my own home, unless it's myself.
YES, handy men are so sexy!!! My guy does the house repairs, fixes the cars, helps me renovate houses, and built me chicken and duck coops this year! Saves us thousands upon thousands of dollars from not hiring other people to do the work.
Not normally, but I can be. My dad typically likes doing everything himself when he can, so he doesn't let me help lol. Only thing I'm allowed to do is anything plumbing related.
I try to be. Our landlord handles a lot of the major stuff though. Hopefully when we get our own house, I can learn more.
Yeah, that's about the extent of it for me too.
Pretty handy. I can fix almost everything on a car or house except the stuff you need specialized extremely expensive tools for
Not really. Simple things like drain clogs and toilet valves. I’ve sanded and stained a deck and resealed the patio. That’s probably my limit. My talents lie elsewhere. 🤔😉😂
No. I have poor craftsmanship skills. I do watch YouTube videos to learn sometimes but I just don't like dealing with craftsmanship stuff.
Have no desire to be messing around with tools and getting on the floor.
Well, this has been like my hobby.. i have this huge bag of tools with everything in it.. i can fix most of the things, electricity , wood, water tapes and other stuff, when you see me working you won't believe i am a doctor 😀
lol, it is really ! we rarely order a professional handy man in my house, but this has come with a cost.. when i was child , i electrified myself like hundreds of times , and many sets that i claimed that i will fix ended up dead :D , i was a disaster in my childhood..
My husband does the handy work. I’m the girl of this relationship, I ain’t fixing nothing 🙄🙄🙄🙄
I would say so. I have laid ceramic wall and floor tiles, laid laminate wood flooring, lino and carpet, I can decorate so yeah not bad for an amateur DIYer lol 🤣
I try to do all my maintenance on my own. Specialists can be terribly expensive. I've fixed toilets, I've replaced plenty of car parts, I'm handy with a soldering iron, I can do a thing or two.
Truth! Had it not been for the gift of the Internet and YouTube, I'd be deep in the hole.
Best investments I make are tools for jobs like that.
I am as of recently. Had to strip a house down to studs and redo flooring, walls, doors, windows, appliances, basically electrical stuff, cabinets, paint, etc. Heating/furnace repairs and soldering water lines are outside my wheelhouse though.
I can do simple things. I don't know that many yet though
Whatever the opposite is of a handyman, I'm THAT😂
I'm an Engineer by trade, and cross trained on electrical, plumbing, small DIY jobs I'll do, but as I'm renting from a Social Landlord any major work has to be done by accredited Electrician/Plumber.
I guess, I am. I do about all the cleaning. My dad fixes things.
My dad was - unfortunately I didn’t learn as much from him as I wanted to 😞
Yes I can pretty much do anything except gas stuff,,,
Gas is easy, just pressure test your lines
I am Very Independent and Handy in some Things as Long as Not to Very Difficult where I'd Need Help. xxoo
Yeah, but I'm flat out until after Christmas, so give me a shout then and I might be able to complete your job then.
I surely am miss bartender maya
I can nearly fix everything around the house 😌
Haha, well you can fix for me a cold fresh pepsi drink or a fresh natural orange juice 😋
I’m hand myself or get my dad if I my dad can’t we pay someone. For professional things.
I’m no expert but I do consider myself handy.
up to a certain point but smart enough to know when i need to call someone else who knows what they’re doing to fix it.
Nope, my mechanical common sense is just not there, but I mean if it's something simple or physical work and not something complicated sure I'll do it
Absolutely... every guy has basic tool use aptitude...
Red green said it pretty good
Woman don't find you handsome they should at least find u handy
I am with the right tools. But that's the whole trick, I suppose..
Yes, and if you aren't you really get screwed by the "Mr Fixit" guys
My dad taught me a lot of shit. Except welding which pisses me off cause he has welding tanks and I been wanting to learn
Too poor to train for these skills but not poor enough to hire someone else to get the jobs done.
😐
I'm a city boy who grew up without father or much of a male figure... So handy enough.. LOL..
I work in the construction industry, so yes. I'm an electrician by trade.
I can fix some stuff around the house but I want to learn more.
Absolutely, I do apartment maintenance and have a home maintenance business. So as you would imagine nothing gets done around the house…. lol
No I'm the only handy one around here 😆
I can do house maintenance myself. Its good skills to have.
Always do what i can and seek help if too complicated.. double sided tape can repair a lot of stuff hahahaha
I can do and fix just about anything around the house.
My husband isn’t handy. We typically hire someone.
No I have my dad😂
Yes:)
How about you?
Smart!
Better than I used to be but I'm definitely no expert
Yes I am good at it, not only in the house I am good at fixing car by myself..
Yes. A farm boy education gives you skills in everything other than finishing nicely.
