Girls, do you have a handy husband or DIY guy?
Sure, I have take care of my home since the 90's and built half of it besides running the plumbing and electricals. I just didn't have time with school and work to do everything.
If i ran into a problem I didn't know how to fix, I would research it by going to the library and the hardware store and talk to experienced people who had the knowledge I needed.
One of the most important skills men develop is learning to adapt to any given situation, know your boundaries and learn when is best to bring in a professional.

Very much so. I am currently working on a major addition to our house per the wife's request. Also making some new tables and chairs. She wants a fire place so part of the addition includes building a fire place complete with the slab of marble she purchased for the mantle. I have place all the stones in add the mantle and stones on top until the full fireplace and chimney is in place I have the first bit started since I need it to go up at the same time as the rest of the addition. She also wants a second floor added so we can be upstairs for a bit more privacy and the little ones will be downstairs.
I am usually not handy nor do I have anyone handy around me, but once I repaired my great grandpa’s antique chair, because they were going to throw it away.
I wanted it to stay in the family, because my great grandpa loved it, I repaired it when I was 16-17 and they still use it pretty well 10 years later.
Fortunately, one of my neighbours is a very helpful soul :D
I assume I could harm myself with those :D
I'm better with electronics...

Jack of all trades. Most recently… my pasta sauce got huge accolades.
I suppose it depends on your definition of handy. I'm more of a technician, that is to say I can fix a lot if it's an electronic device. But I do what I can do when it comes to home maintenance, from fixing a leaky sink to replacing the vanity or changing a light bulb to installing a ceiling fan. I'm certainly no pro but I was gifted with some good spacial reasoning and can get the job done if I put my mind to it. Even some basic vehicle repair.
YouTube is always a good resource for something I don't know or understand. Or I learned from watching others, such as the many jobsites I work at I see tile being installed (properly). When I needed to replace tile in the shower I felt confident enough to do it on my own.
So I guess my simple answer is; I'm not a trained handy-man, but I guess I have a natural tendency to doing what needs to be done. I don't always know what or how something needs to be done, but I usually can figure it. But if it's something I don't feel comfortable touching, I call a pro. There's no shame in it, guys call me all the time for technical repair issues.
Yes I am very handy around the house. I had my house built in 1994. In 2004 I rewired it because I didn't like how the circuits were set up. I replaced all the copper plumbing pipe in my house with pex pipe because I was tired of fixing leaking pipes due to my well water. I put a new roof on my house this past summer. I built my pool deck all out of pvc decking 2 years ago. I built pvc railings on the front and back of my house. I framed and finished my basement. I do minor repairs on all our vehicles. I very rarely have to call a professional for home repairs
I don't mess with gas lines or anything above 120v, but everything else I'm pretty handy. My mom has done carpentry for 30+ years. She built most of the furniture in my house and all of my built-ins. I've worked with her for 20+ years so as long as it's not welding I can probably fix it. Small motors and circuit boards I used to deal with but I've got severe carpal tunnel and numbness in my shooting hand so most of that is out unless I'm fixing something on the log splitter. Do a lot of garden work too, and the cooking of course. Think I'm pretty handy. Don't know shite about cars though.
I would make a joke about yes, mostly in the bedroom. The truth is that I can do plumbing and electrical work. I have built a shed, two decks and a front porch. I replaced all my trim with PVC and installed a sump pump system in my basement I wired the whole house for coaxial cable and when we first moved into this new house i had screened loam delivered and rented a bobcat and planted my own lawn.
I wouldn't say I'm incredibly handy, but I've had a little experience in the past doing carpentry, masonry, and basic plumbing. I'm also the type that wants to do everything himself and never pay for services.
When I move out, I plan on taking no furniture. Only necessities and a sleeping bag and making all my all my furniture myself.
Eventually I also want to build my own custom tiny house and renovate my own campervan. So I guess while I'm not currently handy, I do have the desire to be. I'll learn all my shit from YouTube and online guidesBeing in construction my whole life. Yea I’m very handy, Cars, houses. Buildings. Cement. Roads,……. If it’s broken il find a way to fix it or build it.
I could do anything from build a house up from scratch,
Fix something that broke down,
Or slap up a brick wall 20 feet tall,it’s gotten me very far professionally. And opened all kinds of doors having those skills. And knowledge.
plus’s the ladies love it too. What they are attracted to is the competence. And ability.
handy enough, yes...
to fix, to replace, to figure out some things... to make and build a few other things
some of my relatives and family are quite handy too, and from those times in which things were made to last but also to be repaired and maintained
and so far, so good... have not burned down the house or anything
(except for that time, well twice... the microwave caught fire, but that's a different story)I can do some minor repairs and plumbing and electrical and a bit of drywall. Definitely good at simple installations like garage racks for storage and shelving. Probably not too handy with major renovations like a kitchen or a bathroom remodel.
pretty good at identifying work that needs to be donevery handy when it comes to the outdoor world/our property. I can also work on gas powered tools, such as chainsaws and snowblowers, etc.
I can do all my bike repairs.
Yes I am. I can do most things, including structural wood projects, simple wood furniture (ex: book bases) and tables, electrical work and simple plumbing. I don't do plumbing with natural gas though... many years ago, I had to use a reduction fitting on the gas line for our new gas clothes dryer and almost blew the house up with the gas leak. I leave natural gas work to the experts.
“Jack of all trades, master of none.”
Carpentry, some roofing, electrical, plumbing, welding, landscaping, ditch digging (not afraid to dig a hole), heavy equipment operation, cat raising for rodent control, soon to raise a rooster for keeping predatory birds away if him and my cat get along, then l will be raising some ducks; hell, l even do housework. Yep, l am also self-domesticated.Very... I have always been able to do just about anything involving a house. Was a mechanic for a while in my teens so good with cars too and just about anything else. I only hire people for major projects that I don't have time for. Everything else I do myself.
For some things, yes, for others, no. If there's a tech component to it, I can probably do it, and I'm comfortable with electrical work as long as it's not a major project (if it's large enough that you should be pulling a permit, I'll shunt it to an electrician) but I don't do much when it comes to structural work or plumbing
Not just my house, but also my parents' house. I feel like I'm fixing or upgrading something over there more than my own house.
I can do carpentry, electrical, some basic plumbing, definitely low-voltage wiring (speakers, cameras, networking, etc.), and of course things like painting, plus car maintenance. So I'm always doing something like that for myself, my parents, my girlfriend, or even for friends (who are happy to pay me).
I know I'm extremely fortunate in having a husband who can turn his hands to most jobs that need sorting or doing. (DIY).
He was obviously well taught by his father, who seems to be an expert in all manner of things that need doing.
not at all, far from handy, i tried to switch hinges and add hinges... every possible wrong combination seemed what i needed to do... many attempts until i succeeded. but i managed to build beds. 2 simple wood beds. not "assemble bed from shop" but order the length of wood strips and boards, drill and attach wood with screws.
I invented the ''house'' in some previous life.
But I'm not proud of it, as real estate sharks - and such - meanwhile perverted my invention.
As a revenge, I won't let anyone fix or make something in (or around) my own home, unless it's myself.
YES, handy men are so sexy!!! My guy does the house repairs, fixes the cars, helps me renovate houses, and built me chicken and duck coops this year! Saves us thousands upon thousands of dollars from not hiring other people to do the work.
Not normally, but I can be. My dad typically likes doing everything himself when he can, so he doesn't let me help lol. Only thing I'm allowed to do is anything plumbing related.
I try to be. Our landlord handles a lot of the major stuff though. Hopefully when we get our own house, I can learn more.
