My ex told me he’s lonely?

After we broke up, my ex tried to initiate some friends with benefits activities, but I shut that down and told him it’ll never happen. Since then we have barely spoken, and whenever we do it is because he has initiated contact.

Just recently he reached out, out of the blue, to say he’s tired and lonely. I told him I’m sorry that he’s struggling and he can talk to me if he is in a bad place. He didn’t open up any further but he has sent me some random messages and videos of him just smiling and listening to music.

If truth be told, I do miss him but I have too much pride to ever let that on to him, as he was the one to end things saying he didn’t love me.

Is he just reaching out because he’s lonely or is it possible he misses me, too?

That’s usually what I’d assume if someone else told me that as well, but that’s really not in his nature. He’s usually fairly intentional about what he says and does and as I said I shut down any possibilities of us hooking up months ago after the breakup

Ok so probably he wasn't horny and he was in fact feeling lonely, but trust me if it is because he figured out it was a mistake letting you go and actually loves you, he will try way harder than just a text. I wouldn't hold my breath for it tho

You’re right, “if he wanted to he would” and all that lol. Since the breakup I’ve recognized my toxic trait is just wanting to be loved, and overlooking red flags in order to try and obtain that. He’s not the most amazing man I’ve ever met so I try to rationalize with myself that I’m better off, it’s just hard sometimes y’know? I suppose I’m lonely, too
