Guys, Men helping - is it about being a hero?

what do you get out of doing so much problem fixing? What’s in it for you?
what motivates you to put in so much time to help one person?
I read stuff about guys wanting to be heroes - but that sounded a bit cheesy to me

But this guy friend of mine (who I really like) continues to be helpful with literally everything. To the point where I have been joking with him that there isn’t anything he can’t do.

i guess it’s one of those often quoted scenarios where guys like to fix things.
He spends a lot of time thinking up useful solutions (DIY things), actually building stuff, sourcing the right materials for repairs, planning projects, helping to move heavy stuff etc

if I add up the hours he spends to do these things for me - it’s quite a lot. A serious amount of hours over the last while.
I make sure he knows that all this is appreciated and valued (which honestly it has been)
This is a follow up to a previous question (I hope that is ok, don’t want to duplicate stuff) - but can’t get this out of my mind, so it made me think more about the underlying motivations and how helping/ fixing issues makes guys feel. - also in an attempt to come up with the appropriate thanks- so it doesn’t look like I am trying to take advantage of his help.

thanks for listening
