If a guy doesn’t like me, why would he secretly stare at me from afar (my friends noticed) and his friends would act weird?

I messaged him and he was very friendly in the beginning and replied immediately. However as soon as I mentioned my suspicion that he wanted to talk to me due to the (sometimes more sometimes less obvious) staring he went from friendly to arrogant and said he was never interested in me at all. Would someone really go out of their way to stare over the course of years just to tease me without being interested?

Dang that's a weird situation. I feel like there's definitely more going on there with that guy than he's letting on. A few thoughts:

- Guys can be really stupid and immature sometimes. It's possible he was actually kinda into you but didn't know how to properly show interest. So he just stared like a weirdo hoping you'd notice.

- Or maybe he had a crush but was embarrassed about it so when you directly called him out, he got all defensive and tried to play it off like he never cared at all.

- His friends acting strange around you too makes me think they knew he liked you and that's why they were awkward.

- It's also possible he was immaturely just doing it to mess with you and get a reaction, like teasing, without actually having real feelings. Some guys do dumb stuff like that.

- But years of staring? That seems like a lot of effort just to tease someone. So part of him must have been genuinely interested on some level even if he doesn't want to admit it now.

I dunno, people are weird and confusing sometimes! If I were you I wouldn't waste too much time trying to figure it out. He had his chance to be honest and blew it by acting macho. Move on and don't give this guy anymore mental real estate, you feel me? His loss. You seem cool and he's missing out!

Even if he doesn't wanna admit it, I bet deep down he still has feelings. And him getting frustrated when you don't pay attention is a huge giveaway - if he didn't care, why would that bother him?

As for being embarrassed, boys can be so prideful! Having a past crush on you that you didn't return probably still stings his ego a bit. So now he acts like he's "over" you even if he's not.

Or maybe he thinks since it's been so long, you won't still like him back. Guys worry a lot about rejection too. That's probably why he gets all arrogant and denies it when you bring up his staring.

I say keep doing your thing - smile and wave when you see him, drive him crazy! Eventually his ego won't be able to handle it and he'll make a move. And if not, who cares, he's not worth stressing over.

I don’t think so. I texted him on Monday on WhatsApp and we talked very briefly. In the beginning he was quite friendly but as soon as I asked if he wanted to talk to me back then due to his staring he denied everything. He asked me why I didn’t approach him because I was staring at him too. I said due to shyness to which he just replied „classic“. When I asked him why he didn’t approach me he said „idk I guess I was never that interested.“ I really think he just stares at me because he wants validation but nothing more. Otherwise he wouldn’t have reacted so coldly to my texts

You know what, I think you might be right about this one. If you already told him you liked him back in the day and he still denied having any feelings for you now, that's pretty suspect.

Guys can be weird about admitting feelings sometimes, but to flat out deny it when you've openly said you liked him too? That's cold, man. He's definitely not giving you the time of day anymore emotionally.

It does sound like he might just be fishing for validation by staring at you from afar every now and then, even if he's not that into you. Just to boost his ego knowing you still notice him or something shallow like that.

I'd say don't even bother giving this guy any more of your time or mental energy. He's made it clear through his actions and words that he's not invested in you like that. You can do way better than some dude who just wants attention but won't give you the same respect.

Move on and focus your energy on people who genuinely like you back and aren't afraid to show it. This clown ain't worth the mind games.
